A Range Rover stolen after a man was shot and killed in front of his wife Sunday evening during a carjacking at New Jersey mall has been found, police say.

The vehicle was found in Newark, its police department confirmed to Fox News, a city approximately 10 miles away from the scene of the shooting.

Authorities are still looking for two suspects who confronted the couple in the parking garage of the Mall at Short Hills in Millburn Sunday evening.

Television crews from local CBS, ABC and NBC affiliates staked out the building this morning before the building concierge asked them to leave around noon.

Officials told the Jersey Journal they were asking the public and reporters to give building residents some privacy after Dustin Friedland was shot and killed Sunday night after spending time shopping at the Mall at Short Hills in Millburn.

A police officer at the building told the Jersey Journal the entire building is empty today and building management asked that residents’ privacy be respected.

The couple moved to the building in October. City police sat outside the building early Monday afternoon not permitting anyone to enter who was not a resident, officials told Jersey Journal reporter Chinedum Emelumba.

Killed in the attack was 30-year-old Dustin Friedland, a lawyer from Hoboken who had worked recently at his family’s HVAC company analyzing construction-related legal claims, according to his LinkedIn profile. Friedland’s wife, Jamie Schare Friedland, is listed as an attorney specializing in landlord-tenant law at a firm in New York City. Both attended law school at Syracuse University, according to their online profiles.

A woman who answered the phone at Epic Mechanical in Neptune, N.J., declined to comment and said Friedland’s father, who also works there, was not in the office. No one answered at several phone numbers listed for other relatives.

Sunday’s encounter was the latest in a troubling pattern in Essex County, whose borders encompass crime-plagued Newark to the east as well as Short Hills and other affluent suburbs to the west. Carjackings have risen steeply in the past several years, leading local authorities to create a multi-agency task force three years ago after a spate of crimes that included brazen daytime attacks and the carjacking of a snowplow two days after a Christmas blizzard.

The partnership succeeded in arresting and prosecuting three groups responsible for most of the carjackings, and the crime rate fell temporarily. Since then, it has ticked up, with 416 last year in Essex County, a 44 percent increase from 2010.

Nearly 300 carjackings were reported through July 31 of this year, according to the county prosecutor’s office. In August, authorities announced a program that uses billboards to display mug shots of convicted carjackers next to the number of years they are serving in federal prison.

there's still the $12.00 in tolls per way.

There are no tolls on that part of Rt. 78 - only where it becomes the NJ Turnpike extension (east of Newark). The NJ Turnpike is a toll road. Millburn/Short Hills is west of Newark.

Unarmed and rich in a bad part of town

Short Hills is hardly a bad part of town, but I suppose, given Christie's hostility to CCW and the draconian gun laws in NJ, you could call it kind of a happy hunting ground.

Your brother is wrong. NJ doesn’t have reciprocity. The only people with a CCW are politically connected. The Gov is also anti gun but will deny it if he runs for the presidency!

Back when people knew they would be punished for their crimes either by the state or the victims’ families; there was little crime. One could leave their house unlocked or their car running while they ran into the cleaners.

They could be hired. Intellectual property is big stuff.

You didn't have the baby mama calling her lawyer and a television station when the little s*it got his *ss kicked for crimes the little heathen committed either. Schools are no different. Scold (or dare to touch) the scum of the earth and you're the one who will pay.

Actually, some racist radio station passed on the description of two “African American males,” meaning that police are not going to be stopping and proning out little old blue-haired ladies, but, instead, concentrating their focus on white citizens of African countries who are now US citizens.

The two killers were described elsewhere as black males, perhaps in their 20s.

They look like Obama, Large protruding ears, lying eyes, and flies on face.

Friedland was pronounced dead at the hospital. His wife was not hurt.

I beg to differ, even if we are talking about lawyers here.

Local NYC news last night did describe the perps as "African American".

Truly amazing. That is surely a non PC station.

“Police say they have no motive. Redistribution. That’s the motive.”

It is worse than that. In order to convince people to kill Jews, Gypsys, and Slavs, the Nazis had to convince them (within a few short years) that those groups were less than human. We are now dealing with the third or fourth successive generation of urban blacks who’ve been taught that about whites since birth.

“BTW, Fox 5 News in NY this morning described the perps as “dark skinned.” So there you have it — the motive was wealth redistribution.”

That is the LAST conclusion I draw from the perp description. To me it simply confirms this is part of the low-profile race war being waged along the perimeters of our urban welfare reservations. The fact that the car was recovered fairly quickly to me indicates that the theft was simply a by-product of racial murder. Sounds nuts, but makes as much sense as anything else.

Hubby tried to resist,

Don't let facts get in the way of blaming the victim.

Ahhh, I see what you were thinking. The hit men had no direct interest in the IP.

Still, the lawyers aren't the ones making the really big bucks. They just make the arguments. The inventors and property owners are the ones that either get fleeced or make it big.

I would think that family lawyers have way more risk of a retaliatory attack, compared with the risk (due to their practice) that an IP lawyer has.
