Inheritance tax is part of the federal income tax code ... so it would go away under a federal income tax code repeal ;)

Property tax is local, not federal. But being a homeowner I would sure favor eliminating property tax in my municipality in favor of a consumption based tax... especially since my area has more visitors each year than Disneyland!

Granted there is a federal inheritance tax that would still have to be paid, unless the property and home was in a family trust. But many states also have an inheritance tax on top of the federal tax.

It would also be tricky to eliminate property taxes because they are generally used to fund public education, and the federal courts have often demanded that states pay for this the way the courts want, or else face horrible fines, and many states are under court order, forcing them to keep property taxes.

Which, to my mind is yet another reason to abolish them, and other “perpetual taxes”, for single families who own their property.
