Does Phil Robertson get the bible wrong?
CNN ^ | 12/20/2013 | Daniel Burke

(CNN) – The Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame has rallied around its patriarch, saying his controversial comments on homosexuality are "grounded in the teachings of the Bible." But Scripture is fiercely contested ground, and some experts say Phil Robertson misinterprets a key Bible verse.

A&E, the network that broadcasts the hugely popular "Duck Dynasty" show, suspended Robertson for a now infamous interview with GQ magazine. In the article, Robertson, who became a born-again Christian in the 1970s after a prodigal youth, is asked to define "sin."

Here's what Robertson says: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

Robertson, 67, then paraphrases a Bible passage from the New Testament: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers – they won’t inherit the kingdom of God.”

That's a pretty close citation of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, which is a letter from Paul, often called the father of Christianity theology, to a fledging Christian community in Corinth, Greece.

Here's what Paul's passage says, as translated in the New International Version, by far the most popular translation among evangelicals and conservative Christians such as Robertson:

"Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Conservative Christians, who make up about a quarter of the U.S. population, tend to take that passage at face value. The Robertson family pastor, for instance, told CNN on Thursday that "the verse explains itself."

I knew libs argued G-d didn't mean gay sex. Well, Buddhists say don't have sex, & Chassids say listen to Torah. Obviously, G-d knew the primary catch for enlightenment-seeking men.

As Luther put it, some people twist God’s Word like it was a wax nose. The Bible plainly teaches that homosexual sex is a sin. These wishful thinkers will have to argue with Him.

Face palm time! He paraphrases exactly the same thing and they want to play like he was quoting?

Liberal mindset is stunningly stunning! He said tomato but his tomato doesn’t seem to look like our tomato?

Do they walk to work or carry their lunch?

I’d like to know how the actual interview sounded, rather than GQ’s editing of it. Did he really jump from “Tell us about sin,” to implying it all starts with homosexuality? I don’t think so. I think he was edited to sound like he fixates on that issue, but if you listen to him speaking he is actually more focused on sins that tempt him and which he has experience—fornication, adultery, masturbation, etc.

So I got to fantasizin', see ... an' I wondered ...

What if Phil just sauntered onto the sound stage and started recording as normal?

What if a couple of twinks decided they were not going to operate their camera's?

What if Phil told them he loved them and they looked mah vil us ! ?

WHAT IF PEOPLE SIMPLY IGNORED EVERY LIB/LEFTY/COMMIE/UN-AMERICAN DIRECTIVE/RULE/REGULATION/LAW AND JUST WENT ABOUT THEIR WAY BEING AMERICANS???

Wouldn't THAT be special ?

Merry Christmas.

Just like our Constitution, the Bible means what liberals want it to mean.

The Bible plainly teaches that homosexual sex is a sin.

Not only that, real judgment comes not so much with a few homosexuals here and there….it comes when as a society, we condone it….that's the real lesson of Sodom and Gomorrah….and as they say, if the shoe fits…….

Exactly. Imagine an Army of Pajamaboys at Normandy or Iwo Jima.

A society needs real men to allow the bois to exsit…..

Isn’t incredible - just as homosexuals want the unprecedented right to marry, some enlightened bible “scholars” “discover” that several thousand years of biblical interpretation were wrong on homosexuality?

What a lucky coincidence!

Our elite open-border Quislings would say that that is the reason we need millions of Mexicans: to do the work while our PJ boys lay around with hot cocoa and video games.

It’s a twofer for them, with dependency on Big Gov from both sides.
