In several detailed news reports, esp. in the NYT and Wash. Post, Snowden gave specific targets of electronic surveillance/eavesdropping, by country, office and person, as well as listing things that were specifically overheard or emailed. Die Speigel also had a long article on some of the things he said about operations in Germany.

Any good intell analyst can extrapolate classified information from even generalized information because the subject area itself is often classified (i.e. known only to a select group). The fact that a foreign power even knows about certain operations or places is invaluable to be aware so that countermeasure and backtracking can be done.

I once helped a former Soviet Army major and later legal officer who worked with the KGB in military contracting, to write his congressional testimony in a more proper English (also had his friend/translator who did the initial translations from Russian to English).

He reviewed hidden Soviet military-industrial complexed hidden within the Light Industry, such as Machine Guns being made in Samovar Plant #555 in Tula. This helped to confirm suspicions that the Soviets had hidden a significant portion of their military budget in the Civilian Budget, and thus raised their defense spending upwards from what was publicly announced.

This was confirmed by the B Team report of 1976 (Gen. Daniel Graham (a classmate of mine) and John Collins of the Library of Congress), that the REAL Soviet military budget was not 3-5-7% of the overall budget, but actually in the range of 10-15-18%.

This had a tremendous effect on US-Soviet arms reduction talks under Carter and Reagan.

You do the math.

Snowden is a traitor. He didn’t give away cooking recipes. He gave away electronic surveillance secrets - targets, techniques, equipment used, etc.

So you have not seen the documents it is claimed Snowden released. Everyone wants to talk as though they have but so far there has been no proof of anything. What has been discussed has been known to anyone in the intel community. The fact one country spies on another country is not new. The fact that there are ground and space based sensor systems is not new. The fact that no person at any level within any government is safe from being spied on is not new. The fact that the NSA and other agencies spy on US citizens on US soil is not new and hasn’t been for several decades. The fact that such spying violates all kinds of laws is not new.
