I didn’t know that. Somebody needs to get this info to MicroSoft, because Outlook flags three dots as a grammatical error. I see she refers to a “four-dot rule” as well. OTOH, it may be flagging it because it’s End of Paragraph.

I use the “Rule 2” she mentions frequently, but that’s because I bend, break, fold, spindle and mutilate the paragraph rules on a fairly regular basis. Like right now....

:^)

When I first heard this I thought “Sea-Tac”.

I think a state wide - or at least King County - initiative for the $15 min wage is in the works. Seeing as King County (AKA Moscow West) has a majority of votes in WA, it has me concerned.

Well they got their wish...Snarf’s is shut down.

What I find interesting is that a local shop shuts and they are happy but a mega franchise / big box store is now their altrnative. Seems counter logic to the liberal want of village economies. (and I know the mega stores/franchises are on their radar).

FWIW the outfit that shut down is a franchise also.

Don’t kid yourself. The goverment is at war with small business. Big government and big corporations are flip sides of the same coin.

It’s all explained here: http://fredoneverything.net/Liddy.shtml

It warms my heart whenever management decides to shut down instead of caving to union demands!

So it’s a big dal they got fired “ days before Christmas”, but they didn’t think it was a big deal to SHUT DOWN THE BUSINESS during the Christmas shopping season when they very busy.

“Well they got their wish...Snarf’s is shut down.”

Yes, they carry signs around the place, their freedom of movement and speech. Sharf’s shuts down and now they don't have a job due to freedom of an owner to shut down his business if he wants.

Now, the strikers/complainers have no job. Maybe they can go hold signs against another business and see if that gets them a job there. Cause and Effect.

I read a few stories on this, and from what I can glean from them, business is usually slow for them right now. Christmas gift shopping is wrapping up, last-minute shopping isn’t leisurely enough for eating out, people are getting ready for the second feast in a month. Additionally, they decided to retool as a burger joint, which is a top-to-bottom equipment replacement. Put these things together, and they were planning to close for a month or two, protest or not.

I hope they paid attention to who the picketers were, so as not to hire them back.

The strikers shut the place down the first week in December. That’s prime Christmas shopping territory. Yeah it’s slow now through the new year, and it is a good time to shut down to retool. But the workers struck when it probably hurt a lot.

You are 100% correct. I was not addressing that shutdown, I was talking about the current one. Unfortunately, I doubt any of the picketers in the story’s pictures work for the restaurant, so it might be tough for Management to figure out who not to rehire.

They may just find it prudent to drop all previous employee’s job applications into a shredder, should they reapply.

“The WaWa stores out east have sandwich shops like that in them”

I guess it is “no Americans need apply”. We have a couple of new stores in my area (convenience stores and small supermarkets) that seem to employ many young minorities that are definitely not local. I don’t recall seeing “Help Wanted” signs when they opened.

“It’s CLOSED. Now no one has ANY job there. How exactly is going from 7 bucks an hour to ZERO bucks an hour a “victory”?”

It’s a victory, because the evil guy who owns it can no longer get “rich” off the workers. There are multiple studies where scenarios are created that rewards or points are obtained for doing specific things, and eventually some people will start to come ahead due to more “work” or whatever. At the point where people perceive some have more than others regardless of how the people with more got it, the people with less will sacrifice their own rewards fairly greatly in order to reduce and bring down the “winners”.
