Mixed breed dogs are hard to find matches for. We have a Border Collie, St Bernard mix and don’t hope to find another like her. We also have a Belgian Sheepdog and a Tri Colored Collie (rough coated) that are very smart dogs and we are very happy with them. Good luck in your search!

That male looks like our guy. Interesting, not familiar with English Shepard. Looks like our guy all the way. Thank you!

A bored Border Collie is going to find ways of entertaining himself or herself, and you're not likely to be pleased with the outcome. Don't get one if you can't spend the time with them and don't have the space for them, they need a “job” to do, they can be very intense. They'll start herding you or other people and nipping is one thing they'll use to herd. They'll herd ducks if they're around.

“It can be a mistake to try to replicate a beloved older dog. They all have personalities and quirks above and beyond breed traits. Even if you were to find an apparent clone from outward appearance, there’s no guarantee that the particular drives and behaviors would be the same.’

I totally agree with RG — finding a clone — inside and out — of your beloved dog is probably not very likely.

Well...got my first BC back in maybe 87...She was about a year old...Named her Mattie. She was a classic colored BC...but her ears flopped. Ha!! My..was she a good dog. Used to herd my girls and her friends around the yard. Moved to OK...and had her bred to another classic BC...The first pup she had was totally classic colors...then they started getting more and more white. HA!! Vet told me...that wasn't un-common. In fact she said...some folks like them more white..as they can see them better in the dark while herding up their stock.

Anyway...we kept her first born..Named her Casey. Both great dogs...but never needed too much attention really. They were always content...with what was happening around them.

Had to put Mattie dog down...about 4 years ago...and then Casey a couple years later. Hardest things!!

Have a rescue BC now...and a blue healer. They also don't expect much extra attention...I run them a lot in good weather...but they aren't a problem. IOW's....they aren't that needy IMO.

Casey herds chickens. When there is an outlier, he catches it, picks it up in his mouth and brings it back to the flock. They don’t like that very much.

______________

I actually agree. But I like the outside look, like some people like and want poodles, yorkies or german shepards. So I am looking for a particular outside. Then I will find a compatable inside.

We have an Aussie. We will never get any other breed. They are awesome. Where are you located so you can find one nearby
Be careful what you say. I uttered those same words one day while discussing Aussies with another owner. Within the next 15 minutes we bought a chihuaua on a whim. LOL

Is he neutered? If you’re determined your best bet to get his temperament and traits in another dog would be to breed him with a similar female.

You can always find a good taxidermist and when he passes you can have him forever.

Go to Petfinder.com, type in your zip code and breed (if there is a particular breed you want), and you’ll find a list of dogs available in shelters and rescues near you.

A Border Collie is the only breed that we were not able to handle as a family with small children. The herding instinct applied to the kids. Since the pup was a shelter adoption, we were able to find another pup (Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix) that was better suited to the household.

My favorite breed is the Rat Terrier. I have one Rat Terrier now and a Jack Russell/Rat Terrier cross that is just delightful. We also have a Chocolate Lab/Australian Shepherd cross, a Toy Rat Terrier/Chihuahua cross and another "rescue" pup that shares Terrier/Beagle characteristics.

Go to petfinder.org. Start with your zip and the prominent breed and you will find mixes far and wide starting with close to your location and then going states away. I knew I wanted a mix of one breed and probably another and found a puppy at a rescue about half an hour away. Sure enough, we love her and would take another of the same mix any day! Someone had come from Canada to get one of her sisters in the litter.

What exactly constitutes an “Aussie”? Cattle dog or shepherd? They are two different dogs.

Hah!

He looks like a punk.

Great idea.

When my Grace started getting old we got her a little brother and she spent the next years training him how to do everything.

Good for you and your lil baby....

Red or blue heeler. The best, most loyal, long lived in good health breed of dog on the planet. But do not ever expect to exclude them from your activities. They will not leave your side. They try to manage your every move. They know what you are going to think ten minutes before you do.

We had a very similar dog - border collie /Australian cattle dog mix that we had to put down last year at age 14. Best dog we ever had. Incredibly smart and I don’t think as hyper as a pure BC. Our’s looked similar to yours but darker brown. His litter mates were black and white with one other brown and white.

After reading your description and my own experience I’m convinced this is a superior breed. Perhaps someone would be willing to breed them on purpose?

Hope you have some luck finding another one.

You probably won’t find another dog exactly like him, but a Sheltie would probably have the same general look and temperament.
