Yeah, sincerity is not something I can imagine him having.
I think he is trying to win back people by showing some religion. He probably figures going to church might be a bit over-playing things, since he doesn’t seem to ever go. I guess he’s still looking for just the right church. Sort of like OJ looking for the killer, he spends a lot of time looking for the church on the golf course.
As I recall, it was ages after moving into DC before they even picked a church to attend. I thought this highly unusual for a guy who’s “religion” was questioned during the campaign. But all they did was fan the flames by not getting out on Sundays as a family
