ZURICH, Ont. - Every Canadian knows the pain of getting into an ice-cold vehicle in the winter.
But a vehicle made of ice? Only in Canada.
Hensall, Ont.-based Iceculture was called in to help craft a pickup truck made mostly of ice for a commercial.
Proving the 6,800-kg vehicle wasnt all show and no go, it made a four-kilometre drive in Huron County earlier in December.
Building a drivable pickup out of mostly ice wasnt easy.
Workers from Bronson Line Automotive of Zurich stripped the cab and body from a 2005 GMC Silverado and fitted it with a steel frame to support the ice. Special fans were used to provide airflow and remove hot air and exhaust fumes.
It was probably one of the biggest challenges weve ever done. Iceculture president Heidi Bayley said.
The Canadian Tire commercial will air during the Winter Classic hockey game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings on New Years Day.
I’d hate to see them drive it with the heater on.
Does it have heated seats?
Canada non-Ping!
Does it come with Air Conditioning?..................
Winter Classic is at the Big House this year.
Should be a big crowd.
Truck.
That’s one cool vehicle.
You might be an eskimo if you have a pickup made out of ice.
bflr
Box and Cab?
Hey, it's the media, lucky they don't think it's an automatic AK-47.
Well, that’s pretty cool. (pun fully intended)
Cool ride, eh?
How much beer can you fit in the bed?
Coors should call them up and get it for those alpine delivery guys, then show them driving home in the ice truck after a hard day delivering beer.
Just thinking about the radiator - what does it do in this vehicle?
