"Forty-six officers were killed in traffic related accidents, and 33 were killed by firearms."

Sounds like a lot of lives could be saved by taking the cars away from the cops.

What am I missing?

Do you really feel that members of the general public - common citizens should be able to have and drive cars? That should be left to trained government professionals, shouldn't it? Why I have a neighbor that brandishes a pickup truck in public every day and then conceals it in a garage sometimes. It's all very frightening.

With high suspension, mud tire, and dual exhausts through the bed?

There oughta be a law!

The fact that DMV’s have managed to create an exponential increase in the overall chaos of the system is no argument for passing more gun laws.

Regarding this report, I heard on the radio that about 90% of the police around the nation now wear bullet-proof vests.

You hit on the reason. Dogs don’t shoot back.

Ballistic vests are pretty much considered as essential equipment these days. I’m sure they have saved many lives. Even the K-9’s are getting them.

According to the report, 111 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers were killed in the line of duty nationwide this past year, compared to 121 in 2012.

Are there any corresponding data published on the total number of people killed by police in the line of duty each year. It would be interesting to contrast the two data sets.

It’s like a free undercover police force.

Criminals never know where rounds might come from.

Good news, although one suspects the year saw a record number of pet dog deaths at the hands of America’s law enforcement professionals - to use the term loosely.

I agree that it is essential equipment, but what about us folks just driving down the highway- should we get one, too?
