It is when you think about what they had. Not much. Life was about survival, not enjoying life. So, that is what they did. Today’s world we have options. Its a good thing to let children be children. 17 is a young adult. But, still think its a big mistake. A life time commitment shouldn’t be made so young. My father was well into his career and my mother was 23. Depression era, farm raised. He was much older than my mother because he finished college and had a successful career first. He wanted better for his adult liffe than the povert he got away from. He understood that and encouraged me to concentrate on school, not boys. He did the right thing.
Options are good. They should not be something to cause insecurities. Kids should wait and get there life in order first
“What you read is that your bizarre claim of what was normal, are myth.
My grandmother married at 15, and my wife was 17, but it doesnt change the facts of what was normal in the past.”
So You, Me CV and a bunch of others on this thread all share that experience you deny. Imagine the odds of that!
Each of us statistical anomolies just ‘happened’ to all congregate on one thread in the space time continuum.
I better get a lotto ticket quick...
Holly, please explain for the class the scientific reason for puberty and the ages it commonly occurs.
I’ll wait.
LOL, dedication to facts and history doesn’t have much appeal to you.
Nothing like some anecdotes to let you ignore the facts we are posting.
Another point for you. At 17 my DAUGHTER was working in the F117 as a jet engine Mechanic. At 18 she was holding an M4 onat a gate in Irak as SpecOps drove through with ALQuaida strapped across the hoods of hummers like Deer. At 20 she was Back on jets, this time the F22. Then the F35 as it went through trials. Today she is on the #2 plane in the AF inventory. Married, with two step kids.
She is 24.
I’d say she managed job security and youth just fine.
Of course the rate of maturity varies, but ambiguous criteria is insufficient for the standards a moral and sane society requires to be governed. The line must be drawn.
>> Alexander the Great led armies and conqured nations before 17.
An epoch variable that of course impacts maturity.
And you deny the facts of your own family and a GROWING number of posters showing you to be wrong. this is why you lost the last argument as well.
How old was Mary when she had Jesus?
Early marriages were once the norm, eh, Norm?
;D
But isn’t maturity the base of this all? ATG was mature at 17. A sub 17 yo with a wife and kids HAD to be mature. And they then take that maturity through the rest of their life rather thab discover it at 27 when the x box breaks.
“Geez, Ben, a mans beard is, well, his beard.”
Unless it’s Moochelle.
Normally yes ;)
I also like how we are supposed to interpret his 2009 comments “in light of” his recent comments, like somehow he KNEW he was going to say something this year that would make people upset, and he should have realized that and been more careful about what comedy he did in 2009.
He questioned liberal doxology and needs to be destroyed. They will dig up everything he said or did they can turn into a scandal.
Pray America is Waking
That last might be the first case of a beard with a beard.
Physiological maturity does not equal emotional maturity or even intellectually ready.
By the way - I think you can add one more to the “early marriage” bunch - that being my grandmother.
In fact she was said to have been worried that my mother waited until after college to marry, making her practically an old maid at 22.
Good for her. Choices are good. You must be very proud of her strong commitment.
It is not condescending to state a fact. That fact is puberty is the body’s biological readiness for reproduction. Blame God, not me.
If you want to continue with your argument that young marriage is/was some sort of evil, then explain why puberty does not occur at an age more suited to your personal liking. Since we prefer our families to be married, why do you suppose it is that there should be an extended gap between puberty and marraige? Since history and this thread itself show how common youthful marriage has been in the past, perhaps it’s your refusal to accept the evidence of your eyes rather than history’s refusal to accommodate your prefrence that is the issue.
>> ATG was mature at 17.
And Jesus wasn’t wearing pajamas drinking hot coco at 26.
My final point, FRiend (got a DVD to watch)... by virtue of physiology and sociology, today’s younglings aren’t conquering the world at 16... and certainly not at 14 years of age.
G’night and Happy New Year!
I am indeed and thank you. And once upon a time there were many like her. Which is my point. If she could be so responsible so young, why is it so odd that more are not? Because society has rigged the deck so they need not be. And this whole issue is a part of that.
