I wonder if the current regime will give it a thought. After all what more could Obama do to look like the worse than Carter?

Within the span of about 5 years, that highway went from 55 to 70 to 65 to 50 to 55. Someone made coin selling those signs and installing them.

I’m all for the 80 to 85 speed limits and I will be running at least 85 and 90 respectively on those roads but I can’t help but think of the dangers of a tire blowout at that speed.

Amen to that. People have no idea of rules and courtesy on the roadways today.

Political changes?.

The leftists gaining more power and impressing their economic stupidity on the country. The foolish immigration policy that bows and scrapes to the muslims. Gun and knife control. Perhaps the place was harder left than I originally perceived when making a visit in 1993. My visits were prompted by family history research. I paid a visit to the house where my great grandfather lived before emigrating to the US in 1863.

I stand corrected. I guess that’s one thing I can’t blame Carter for.

The existing 70mph limit on UK motorways is routinely ignored, with very little enforcement - so unlikely there’d be much difference in the way people actually drive.

Hard to understand why the Left hates Nixon so much. He gave them a crapload of their own agenda.

Same thing with Bush (I but especially II), or Obama for that matter. For most of them, their political analysis skill is limited to deciphering the "D" or "R" following the name. When a RINO does collectivist statist stuff they SHOULD like, it's bad, but when a "D" does stuff they claim they hate, it's either ignored or it's just hunky dory.

The 55 MPH speed limit helped bring Ronald Reagan into office, so bring it on.

Lets send John Hennessey over there with one of his super cars and blast that road with a 200+mph run, wake em up, show em how its done in Texas. Set all the envirowackos on fire!

I think it was 55 that was held as efficient.

Fatalities spiked in a couple of states where it is a long ways to anywhere (WY, ND, MT). Knocking 15 miles an hour off your progress adds a couple of hours to some trips, and people were falling asleep at the wheel.

It was 1987. Reagan got rid of it.

Political changes shouldn’t stop you visiting a country, to enjoy its history and culture.

It was the country of my ancestors. It now has muslim head choppers on the street and laws that ban me from carrying any form of self defense. Self defense itself is prohibited and prosecuted. I’ll make do with pictures and spend my very limited vacation money at home. I haven’t taken a real vacation since 1999. My wife has Welsh ancestors in the Pembroke area. I still have cousins living in Pontrhydygroes.

I drive in miles per hour, I buy beer in pints, all our road signs are in miles and yards, I weigh myself in stones and pounds and I measure myself in feet and inches.

However, I buy fuel and milk in litres, food in grams and kilos and I lift weights in KG.
