GOP senator [Lugar] ousted by Tea Party challenger donates to Democratic Senate hopeful in Georgia
Washington Examiner ^ | January 7, 2014 | JOEL GEHRKE

Former Sen. Richard Lugar, a Republican, has given the maximum amount of money allowed under federal campaign finance laws to a candidate who hopes to help Democrats retain the Senate in the 2014 election.

Michelle Nunn used the $5,000 donation to appeal to conservative Georgia voters. "I am immensely honored and grateful for Senator Lugar's generous support in this race," she said. "Both in the Senate and in the international community, Senator Lugar's collaborative approach made us safer and moved our country forward. We need more leaders like Senator Lugar -- not less, and I will strive to follow this legacy in the U.S. Senate."

The Lugar-backed 19th Star PAC gave Nunn $5,000, the most that a PAC can give an individual candidate.....

After 36 years, Lugar lost his Senate seat from Indiana in 2010 when State Treasurer Richard Mourdock defeated him in the Republican primary by arguing that he was too moderate.

This kind of thing is exactly why I’m no longer a Republican.

When “moderate” Republicans lose they support Democrats. When “moderate” Republicans win they vote with Democrats.

So why vote for “moderate” Republicans?

Lugar had aspirations beyond the Senate. He was surely humiliated by his primary defeat and this is his petty, childish way of sticking a finger in the eye of conservatives.

"This kind of thing is exactly why I’m no longer a Republican."

Same with me also.
It's not the TEA party that has tore apart the Republican Party. It's those wimpy moderate, Democrat Party infiltrators like Lugar that have wrecked the once conservative party of Ronald Reagan. It's the reach across the aisle, bipartisan Republicans that have made the party the lapdog of the Democrats. There is no hope for the Republicans as long as the current "big tent" careerist Republicans are in charge.

If the GOPe doesn’t disown him for this, then they will be coloring themselves as “progressive” as Lugar has colored himself.

Isn't that the same lame question asked of people when it was the Democrats vs. the Whigs in 1860?

Just a quick search found this.

They are trying for a comeback. Personally, one shot in the barrel is all you get and they screwed it up so badly the first time that it actually morphed into the Republican Party. Many of the old Whigs just switched to the Republicans just like Progressives morphed into Liberals because the Prog label was too toxic after Wilson.

In that we are already screwed to the wall from both Parties, it is not time to resurrect one that forgot who they were there for, but to start over again to marginalize both with one that its only platform forever will be strict adherence to the Constitution, period.

Let's hit the Reset Button already. The sooner we do, the sooner it will start to turn around. Face it, there is no way to "fix" the Republican establishment just as there is no way to "fix" Obamacare.

by arguing that he was too moderate.

We need to step up and STOP calling them 'moderate Republicans'.

They're undocumented Democrats!

We can take amusement in this behavior, because such bitter, petty people will do such things. And the more RINOs the Tea Party boots out of office, the more they will prove beyond any doubt that they *should* have been booted out.

“Guess what? You *weren’t* as brilliant and irreplaceable and deserving of power as one of ‘the elite’! You were just another back-stabbing, meeching, liberal, willing to betray your country for the sake of being invited to cocktail parties with internationalist one-worlders.

“Adios, you worthless sack o’ shiat!”
