Don’t forget the black boxes. Federally required on ALL 2014 vehicles. By unconstitutional regulation, NOT by Constitutional legislation.
Buy a leftover 2013 model and keep it as long as you can.
At least some GM models have have had them for a few years now. Other manufacturers may have also.
The local Sheriff's office wrecked a Tahoe 3 years ago. They got the black box out from under the driver's seat to find out if the deputy was driving too fast or otherwise dangerously. Apparently the law enforcement video system wasn't turned on at the time.

Anything with an OBD-II powertrain control module (since what, 1996?) has data-storing capability. Not just speed records, but all sort of stuff like seat belt usage.
There's a paragraph or two in most vehicle operator's manuals - there's usually some reference to the data being available to law-enforcement agencies and your insurance provider.
So, the capabilities are expanding, but the problem isn't a new one. The big issue is the government's increasing willingness to use this information.
Most vehicle have had “black boxes” for years.
Some for decades.
I think I’ll keep my mother’s (she passed away in November and I inherited her car, only 31K miles, practically new) 2004 Hyundai Sonata as long a I can.
