There are no imaginable laws that could keep guns out of the hands of felons. Our only choice is whether the felons will be the only ones armed or their law-abiding victims will be armed too and able to defend themselves.
You are correct. “Keeping guns out of the hands of felons” is just a phrase used to promote “Keeping guns out of the hands of citizens”. The key to understand this is that the proposals put forth always impose more difficulties on law abiding citizens than they do on the criminals.
Yup. All we need is just one more law affecting only legal gun owners and those nasty felons won’t be able to get any guns at all. We’d all be safe then. Until we need just one more law that is.
I had a chance to read a account about life in Houston Texas back around 1900. Almost everyone carried a pistol of some sort. Gun violence happened but very rarely. The bad guys knew that most everyone was armed and would shoot back.
After Hurricane Ike, the press asked Gov. Perry about looting in Galveston country. The head of the DPS stated that there was no looting in that county.
Galveston County Texas has the highest per capita issuances of concealed handgun licenses. The bad guys know this.
You could put the felons in a place where there is no access to guns or access to decent people to victimize.
Our only choice is whether the felons will be the only ones armed or their law-abiding victims will be armed too and able to defend themselves.
I agree that all law-abiding folks should be armed but that will not decrease the numbers of shootings in places like Milwaukee because the victims of illegally armed law breaking thugs are themselves illegally armed law breaking thugs.
This question in not why do we allow 'guns on the streets' but why do we allow dangerous people who can't handle the freedoms we have out onto the street.
