The elderly man accused of shooting a movie theater patron in Florida after an argument over text messaging told police that he fired because he "was in fear of being attacked."

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a news conference today that the victim, Chad Oulson, 43, was texting his young daughter's babysitter when an argument erupted with Reeves over texting during previews before the movie "Lone Survivor."

The cop knew what the popcorn could me, he was about to be assaulted. The 71 year old cop knew he was no match for the younger man and had to defend himself from great bodily harm.

There is no report that he received any medical treatment for thrown popcorn.

The popcorn may have been a defensive move when the old guy pulled his gun.

I hope they give the shooter a full medical workup, because it wouldn’t surprise me to find out he’s got some underlying issue, like a brain tumor or dementia, that made him behave in this irrational way.

That's pretty much the only rational explanation. Not an excuse, however.

Not to mention assessing the wounds he received from high velocity projectiles of popped corn.

I thought about that and it is entirely possible.

In no way is texting rudeness a killin’ offense. Just never. So why bring it up when a young father is dead?

Throwing popcorn was rude. Shooting and killing someone because they threw popcorn was murder.

How is that? Agree or don’t agree?

OH NO! He supposedly glared at someone breaking the rules of the theatre. That obviously PROVES he is a MADMAN!

That is weird. The scuffle, ok, but a gunshot? I don’t know how you wouldn’t hear that.

Yes it is that loud. Went to see “The Hobbit” last year...was jumping in my seat at the “surround sound” And it didn't have any gunshots in it unlike the alleged movie playing the night of this incident, The Soul Survivor

Harassing someone because they “tattled” and then escalating it to throwing things. Who knows how much farther it would’ve gone.

BOTH were wrong. Sorry you are too blind to see that.

ONE of these couples could have moved.

It similar to my experience fishing. I find a spot on a creek all by myself. Next thing I know another fishermen shows up and starts fishing 20 feet from me. He doesn’t say a word. There is 1000 feet of open creek on either side of me. Instead of asking him why he was stepping on my toes, I simply packed up an moved 300 feet up stream. I COULD have engaged him to make a point but I decided to just move. THAT attitude needs to prevail more.

I guess Mr. “I can do anything I want when I want” met Mr. “Oh no you can’t”. Mr.”Oh no you can’t” won.

Add to that “glare” a dead man, his wife shot, and a daughter who will never know her father because of his supertanker ego. Still a laugh riot for you?

You're right, it isn't, but being a rude self absorbed bastard can get you killed.

Not all that different than running out onto a freeway and expecting everyone to swerve and try to avoid hitting you. This stupid guy ran into the path of a car that had a driver who wasn't going to swerve.

He just should have moved to another part of the theater.

But, on the bright side, he obviously died doing what he loved, pissing off other people.

If I was sitting in a theater texting, you would have to stand up and look over my shoulders to even notice. You wouldn't 'hear' anything nor would you notice the light from the screen.

How do you know the people behind you aren't distracted by the glow of your smart phone screen? It reflects off of eyeglasses and other shiny objects, including jewelry in a darkened theater.

I attended a live performance when an actor suddenly stopped the show, waiting silently and patiently until the self-absorbed Texterrific audience member in the third row finally looked up. The actor said, "Thank you," and continued his lines.

At a concert, paid $200 for a pair of tickets, with unfortunate seats behind three women taking photos and texting on facebook and twitter throughout the first set. I told them, "I understand you are addicts, but we did not pay $200 for the pleasure of viewing your smart phone screens." Boy howdy, did I get dirty looks. Two of the women put their phones away. The third was so insanely addicted to social media, she couldn't stop. It is an illness.
