Because apparently Americans don't have easy enough access to junk food, soon getting a candy bar could be as easy as hitting "print." 3D Systems (DDD) announced a deal with Hershey's (HSY, Fortune 500) Thursday to collaborate on developing a 3-D printer that makes chocolate and other edible products.

In a statement, 3D Systems said making printers that print chocolate is a good way to help the relatively new technology go mainstream. Hershey sees it as a great delivery system for its products.

"Whether it's creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3-D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future," said William Papa, head of research and development at Hershey, in a statement...

Say that again after being hit by 165 grains of pure chocolate going 2800 feet per second.

I know what you’re thinking: "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I’ve kinda lost track myself.

Some times you feel like a nut. So...tell me punk; do you feel like a nut?

Kinda brings a whole new meaning to "Death by Chocolate".

They’ll need to sell a scanner with it so that people can scan their body parts and print them in chocolate.

It’ll make photocopying look like a prank...well, a stupid prank...uh, whatever.

I wouldn’t buy Hershey’s anyway. They pulled out of both Smith Falls ON and Hershey PA for Mexico. No prodution in either the US or Canada. For me, no production means I won’t purchase their products.

Almost forgot that right after “Star Trek TNG” she became the 1st shrink on “Law and Order” from 1991 to 2009.

If 3D printing supplies mimic inkjet supplies, that would end up being the most expensive chocolate in the world!

I miss Deep Thoughts. My favorite one was the sky diver who’s family is on the ground watching as his chute fails to open. “wouldn’t it be funny to pretend you were swimming”

“Say that again after being hit by 165 grains of pure chocolate going 2800 feet per second. “

Never going to happen. But I have had a higher weight and similar velocity of jalapenos exiting my body with excruciating pain.

just Imagine the hacking that's going to occur....

Do you mean in terms of stealing the receipt? Will it even be the same receipt as the store bought products.

Hershey used to be a big customer of mine in a former life. The first time I walked into one of their plants, I smelled that chocolate and said to my client “Wow, you must LOVE working here!” Four hours later as I was leaving, still smelling the smell, I said to my client “Wow, how can you stand working here???”

It gets sickening quick.

When the ON plant was shuttered, so apparently was the Hershey PA plant, and production moved to Mexico. I believe that they have some candy (non-chocolate) production in plants in the US. In any event, with what happened to Smiths Falls, I remain an ex-Hershey chocolate fan. Used to like their chocolates but dislike their ‘politics’ moreso.

A printer that could do frosting on cakes would replace a lot of cake makers.

I had the pleasure of touring the Hershey factory in Chocolate Town USA back in the late 1960s. My late wife’s parents lived there at the time. The factory was open for tours then, not just a small display as in later years. It was one of the most interesting production operationions I’ve ever seen, especially the packaging machines. At that time the whole town of Hershey was owned by the Hershey Foundation - homeowners leased the land where their house was built for 99 years. Old Man Hershey had established orphanages for homeless white boys who worked the farms where the orphanages were located as part of their education. Many of those boys became executives in the Hershey Corp and other major American companies. Naturally, the trusts that established those orphanages were broken in later years as political correctness infested so many things.
