The Health Insurance Marketplaces provides (an excuse for Target not to provide) new options for healthcare coverage that we believe (meaning we did not ask or survey) our part-time members may prefer, she wrote. In fact, by offering them insurance, we could actually disqualify many of them from being eligible for newly available subsidies that could reduce their overall health insurance expense. (In other words, why should we help our employees when the Federal Government will pay for it.. thanks Chamber of Commence.)
Kozlak added that at present, fewer than 10 percent of part-time employees that are eligible have actually enrolled in the companys healthcare plan. (So what is the big deal)
Our decision to discontinue this benefit comes after careful consideration of the impact to our stores (not really, careful review of the Income Statment) part-time team members and to Target (we really did not ask them) , the new options available for our part-time team (tax payers can now pay the bill) , and the historically low number of team members who elected to enroll in the part-time plan, (screw the 10% who want health insurance)
Will Target now respond by raising their pay, since they now don’t have to cover healthcare for workers? Most team members at Target make around $9 an hour.
Wasn’t that one of the great “promises” of Obamacare as well?
Something tells me that just ain’t gonna happen.
IOOW “What difference does it make now?”
