Uncle — it was more complicated than just 2 inches of snow. (I grew up in upstate NY and moved south in ‘73)
When the precip started we were above freezing. (about 6 AM for snowfall start) but by 1-3 PM, depending on where you were we were in the mid twenties, and finished the afternoon early evening in the teens during the heaviest snowfall.
The snow that fell first made the roads wet. It froze in place, then snow fell on top and got packed down.
The ISSUE is that our DOT and the City of Atlanta don’t have a workable plan to get the roads cleared when traffic is heavy with commuters. They didn’t act soon enough, and they lacked the clearing capacity no matter what.
The residents aren’t whining. It was bad for folks trying to get home from downtown ATL.
We live in the distant NE suburbs and are well-prepared for this sort of thing. The ITP folks (inside the perimeter) not at all.
I had to ride my motorcycle home in the snow many times in Amarillo, when it was clear in the morning and no precip expected. Can’t blame the weatherman, unless he’s preaching global warming.
The issue is for drivers to stay off the road during ice storms, not to keep the roads open with equipment. You would think adults would know that you can’t drive in freezing rain.
