Why Coca Cola's Multicultural 'America the Beautiful' Ad Was Offensive
Breitbart ^ | 2 Feb 2014 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 02/03/2014 9:35:46 AM PST by SoConPubbie

Executives at Coca Cola thought it was a good idea to run a 60 second Super Bowl ad featuring children singing "America the Beautiful" – a deeply Christian patriotic anthem whose theme is unity – in several foreign languages. The ad also prominently features a gay couple.

Conservatives instantly lit up social media with objections, with many vowing to boycott the soda company's products.

“If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing 'American the Beautiful' in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come — doggone we are on the road to perdition," said former GOP Rep. Allen West.

The lyrics of the song, written in 1893 by Wellesley College Professor Katherine Lee Bates, ask God to grant America “brotherhood / From sea to shining sea.”

As far as the executives at Coca Cola are concerned, however, the United States of America is no longer a nation ruled by the Constitution and American traditions in which English is the language of government. It is not a nation governed in the Anglo-American tradition of liberty. It is instead a nation governed by some all inclusive multi-cultural synthesis of the various forms of government in the world, as expressed by the multiple languages used in the Super Bowl ad to sing a uniquely American hymn that celebrates our heritage.

“We don't get to pick and chose whether America should be diverse or not,” says one of the women featured in the ad on a behind-the-scenes video posted by Coca Cola, “It is diverse.....We need to celebrate all the different diversities.”

“even how to appeal to children IN UTERO. Neuromarketing. Scary”

Can’t be. Because SCOTUS has ruled that life only starts
after birth* .

Micro-surgery on a fetus, marketing, parents talking to a fetus, etc., have nothing at all to do with a human being. Period. And the justices know best.

*Unless you injure a fetus, in which case you can be sued. (But not if you kill one)

This is the final straw. No more Coke products for me. And Pepsi is just as liberal so adios to their corn syrup beverages too and their subsidiaries like Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. McDonalds caters to the food stamp crowd so they’re toast also.

And vegetables? Forget it. There’s no mandatory labeling so I can’t tell how much pesticides were used or who harvested it; They could be stealth selling organic for all I know. And we all know how much liberals support organic produce, so adios to all vegetables.

Fruit too. Who the hell picked it? I’m boycotting until it’s labeled 100% picked by AMERICANS.

And Meat? Heck all these liberal bleeding heart animal rights people are causing humane treatment policies to be implemented and that’s driving up the cost so, to hell with that also.

Same thing for fish and sustainable species management. I can’t recall the last time I had a piece of North Atlantic cod caught netted by a Gloucester fisherman, heck it might even be woman fishing for them now, so forget it.

Whole foods and hippy stores, hell no!

Mexican restaurants and their illegal staff, hell no!

Any store that has “EBT welcomed here”, forget about.

And car maintenance, I’m doing it all myself now. You know how many local service centers work on GM cars? They are supporting big union payola and I don’t want any part of it.

I’m offended.

If the song is “I’d like to teach the world to sing”, the commercial works.

America the Beautiful, sung in H1-B and lesbian, is offensive.

Atlantic cod are all gone. That’s why you haven’t had any lately. Poor fishery management, mainly by the Canadian government.

An ex bath house employee confided to my gay cousin that mango rocks with certain members of the Chicago elite.

Teddy Roosevelt said:
“There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is room here for only 100% Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.”

He also once said, “In this country we have no place for hyphenated Americans.”

And amazingly enough, this “Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country.” Sounds harsh, doesn’t it? But he urged all who come to our shores to embrace the concept of being an American—our history, our political system (warts and all), our language, and our sense of decency.

Must be the laxative quality and fragrant scent.

(OK, that was graphic)

I wasn't being serious. Notice that I did not include Spanish.

Sometimes I wonder what European tourists arriving in America think--that Americans think that there are only two languages in the world, English and Spanish?

In Europe, Spanish is useful in parts of Spain (from what I have heard, in the Catalan-speaking areas they would rather you spoke to them in English rather than in "Spanish," that is Castilian), and in Galicia you are probably better off if you can speak Portuguese since Portuguese and Galician are very similar. Outside Spain, I don't think you will find much use for Spanish.

I wasn’t offended, but I sure didn’t like it. If they wanted to redo their own “I’d like to buy the world a coke” then no problem...

Sorry Coke, PC diversity is weakness when those cultures represented in your ad do not assimilate the AMERICAN culture.

Coke has always made commercials like this. remember I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing back in early 1970. This commercial didn’t seem much different except for the gay couple.

Coke has always been globalist. "I'd Like To Buy the World a Coke" was more about selling Cokes without regard to borders than giving them away out of generosity.

If you google Katharine Lee Bates, who wrote "America the Beautiful" you may find that the gay couple wasn't wholly surprising, as offensive as it may have been to many people.

It's interesting, though, that Coke runs the gay couple commercial when they're under fire from gay groups for sponsoring Putin's Olympics. The calculations of just who they could afford to offend and how much must have been something.

Monoculture is the quickest route to extinction. Rotate your crops.

Bullsh*t,

Inbreeding leads to weakness of a species. The melting pot of Americanism is where people from all over the world assimilate into what is purely American history, values, and ideals. Bring them in from all over the world, orderly and fully committed to those ideals. If they want to adhere to Chinese ideas…go to China….and so on. Multiculturalism seeks to divide, denigrate, and Balkanize. That is not the American Way. But, it is where Progressivism leads.

In agriculture, the practice of growing the same crop each year leads to increased pestilence and disease. That’s why farmers are advised to rotate their crops. Human culture is analogous.
