If there is one thing the Obama administration can be depended on to do, it is to do their own thing. They have a record of ignoring laws that have been passed by Congress and changing others to suit their needs and agenda. So it is with our immigration law. They have already stated they would not deport certain illegal immigrants, saying their only crime was to be brought to America when they were children. That could be debatable, given the fact that many of them have had the opportunity to do the right thing, yet chose to live here illegally. The Obama administration is now making changes to our immigration law that will allow individuals with ties to terrorism into America.
The Daily Caller - The Obama administration has issued new exemptions to a law that bars certain asylum-seekers and refugees who provided “limited material support” to terrorists who are believed to pose no threat from the U.S.Okay, so we have individuals who may be tied to terrorism. Or, they may not be, but there is evidence to that effect. I'll give the Obama administration the idea that some exemptions should exist. Having said that, and as is stated further down the article from The Daily Caller, what gives them the right to arbitrarily instigate those exemptions, without the consent of Congress? Did Congress not pass these immigration laws? Does the Constitution not grant Congress the specific authority to pass said laws? The answer to both questions is a resounding yes. That same Constitution does not give the Executive Branch of our government the right or authority to change those laws without the consent of Congress. And yet, the Obama administration is going merrily on its way, ignoring the Constitution at every turn.The Department of Homeland Security and the State Department published the new exemptions Wednesday in the Federal Register to narrow a ban in the Immigration and Nationality Act excluding refugees and asylum seekers who had provided limited material support, no matter how minor, to terrorists.
“These exemptions cover five kinds of limited material support that have adversely and unfairly affected refugees and asylum seekers with no tangible connection to terrorism: material support that was insignificant in amount or provided incidentally in the course of everyday social, commercial, family or humanitarian interactions, or under significant pressure,” a DHS official explained to The Daily Caller.
I would expect nothing less from an administration that has ignored the Constitution on a regular basis since January 20, 2009.
They are Different from their constituents.
