California residents are urged to conserve electricity Thursday, as the cold snap in much of the United States is creating a shortage of natural gas.
"A shortage of natural gas triggered by extreme cold weather in much of the United States and Canada is impacting fuel supplies to Southern (California) power plants and reducing electricity generation," the California IndependentSystem Operator Corporation (ISO), said in a statement issuing a statewide Flex Alert. "While the natural gas shortage is only impacting Southern California power plants, statewide electricity and gas conservation will help free up bothelectricity and gas supplies for Southern Californians."

we lost power here yesterday with temps at 2 degrees...luckily it was just 2 hrs and luckily we have a wood stove....
And banning fracking in the Monterrey shale?
I feel like I woke up in the 1970’s. We have a bad economy, an inept president, natural gas shortages, a bitter winter and Jerry Brown as California governor. The only difference, the music generally sucks today. B-P
Oh sure, if you can afford the fines for burning wood!
FIRE BAD!
Use more, cause blackouts, recall Brown like Davis.
Oh yeah........That's right! They have banned wood stoves in favor of torching the state each year in the summer.
We lost power for 8 or 9 hours a few days back too. We never did get an explanation for it.
They’re getting us conditioned to accept the new normal - no water and frequent blackouts.
“rethink that shutting down of the San Onofre nuclear plant.”
...and rethink making everyone else have to close their coal plants and use natural gas too- that’s more competition to drive the price up!
The spot price of natural gas was $36.26 per million British thermal units on Wednesday.
Amen Brother.
I grew up in California in fifties-seventies all together it was great. Sorry it is no more.
You are actually willing to announce to the world that you regard the health and safety of your family at a temp of 2 degrees as more important than the brutal murder of innocent TREES. You should be ashamed.
Anyone who agrees with the above...seek help ASAP
At least California will be up to Sochi standards then.
Can’t be relying on hydro power in California this year with the drought
I could conserve electricity and partially heat my house with my fireplace, but it’s probably a spare the air day...
Californikats should shine the flashlights at solar panels and blow (fart) at the wind turbines. Let that renewable eeeenergy power the rats.
Bienvenidos a Venezuela...
I just turned my thermostat up and shut the pellet stove down after reading this. ;)
