I had to look to see if that might be feasible - I think it is. Some website in Sweden was saying how long-distance skaters will go for 60 miles - with the distance dictated by sunlight.

To go straight across the southern part of Superior, from Wisconsin/Michigan to the north shore looks to be about 70 miles.

Duluth to Thunder Bay is 180 miles or so. I suppose you could have a pack with a sleeping bag and spend overnight on the ice!

I imagine that the hazards of unknown conditions (how thick is the ice over the entire route) would make something like this difficult though. Unless a couple of 16 year-old kids get the urge to do it!
