Ted Cruz takes heat for telling the truth about debt limit
Washington Examiner ^ | FEBRUARY 14, 2014 AT 6:54 PM | Star Parker

Cruz filibustered and forced some of his Republican colleagues, including McConnell, to vote to break the filibuster so the bill could be taken to the floor for a vote.

The headline in The Atlantic read: "Ted Cruz Just Made Life Miserable for Republican Leaders Once Again."

The Wall Street Journal called him “The Minority Maker,” claiming that Cruz's intemperate behavior dooms the Republican Party to disfavor in the eyes of the public.

I disagree.

What, really, is the whole point of the debt ceiling if it is meaningless as a tool to restrain government spending and debt? If the debt ceiling can be routinely raised simply by the president requesting it, why have it at all?

The existence of a debt ceiling has meant nothing, as Obama has added more than $6 trillion in national debt since he took office. National debt will be 74 percent of GDP by the end of the year, double what it was when Obama took office.

President George W. Bush added about $5 trillion to the national debt during his eight years in office.

This is all like promising yourself that you’re going to stop smoking until you light up the next time.

The debt ceiling, as a tool for fiscal and debt restraint, is clearly pointless.

So the only reason for it, as far as I can see, is to provide an opportunity to bring public attention to our dismal state of fiscal affairs every time the debt ceiling is up for another increase.

In this sense, Ted Cruz is one of the few who is actually doing his job.

Every time the debt ceiling comes up, Cruz forces the nation to pay attention. This stuff matters, and we should be grateful to him for refusing to quietly roll over as the nation sinks.

Throwing a brick through the window to wake up the nation to the mess that has been created is an act of patriotism. I am mystified by those who think it’s all a game of psychology.

Cruz’s antics make Republicans look bad, they say. Meanwhile, Obama and his party are having a field day with the Republican congressional cave-in, passing a condition-free debt ceiling increase.

Obama said the passage of this condition-free, “clean, debt ceiling increase takes the “politics of brinksmanship” off the national debt. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said it meant that Republicans were putting “Tea Party politics in the rear-view mirror.”

So while many in his own party are calling Cruz a spoiler, giving his party a bad name, Democrats are framing what Republicans have done as surrender and a Democratic victory.

This is about arithmetic, not psychology. The Democrats are the party that wants to pretend that it doesn’t matter if the numbers don’t add up. Republicans, the supposed opposition party, aren’t doing their job if they don’t refuse to accept this.

A number of years ago I interviewed Rep. Paul Ryan and reminded him of a quote of his: “If you want to be good at this kind of job, you have to be willing to lose it.

“You can’t come up here worrying about your political career. You’ve got to come up here worrying about your country and where it’s going."

He's right. We need elected officials today who care about nothing but telling the truth and leading. Ted Cruz is clearly one of these leaders.STAR PARKER, a Washington Examiner columnist, is an author and president of CURE, Center for Urban Renewal and Education. President George W. Bush added about $5 trillion to the national debt during his eight years in office.

$2 trillion of that during the last two years of his term in office, after the 'rats took-over Congress.

I watched Ted Cruz during his valiant effort to halt the disaster called Obamacare. I hope you watched it as well. If he used it once, he used the phrase “...we no longer listen to the people, our constituents...” over a hundred times. And he was right...they don’t. And the fact is, THEY NO LONGER NEED TO.

I’ve sent my little rant on this topic before but Ted’s honest comment compels me to do so again.
*************

WHY THE POLITICAL RULING CLASS NO LONGER LISTENS TO US!
“When the servants of the people are paid with something other than that which the people themselves have produced (i.e. the real, tangible products of their labors or some fixed and real medium of that exchange), the roles of master and servant will be reversed.”

That was Thomas Jefferson warning that the financial disaster we now face would be but one of many problems paper money would visit upon us if we allowed our “leaders” to remove the backing from the currency.

It was believed by Roger Sherman and a majority of those at the Constitutional Convention that unbacked fiat currency would so damage the fabric of the nation that they ATTEMPTED to prohibit it with these few words at Article 1, Section 10, requiring the states to enforce the prohibition: “No State shall…make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts;”

If the people and their states grew inattentive to this matter (and they have!), Jefferson also saw another problem ahead.

In a letter to John Taylor in 1816, he wrote, “And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”

We have been “…swindling futurity…” for a long time and this is now where we find ourselves. If the government, through its banker masters at the Federal Reserve, can create “money” from thin air, they certainly don’t need ours every April 15th. That annual sheep shearing is simply an attempt to vacuum enough of the excess paper from the system to keep the rest of us from catching on to the biggest theft ring in the history of man. They have now created so much that their attempt is failing and failing badly to a point where all but the dullest among us (Obama voters and his growing cadres of personal and corporate welfare beneficiaries) are starting to “get it.”

If you understood that last paragraph, you can now make the small leap to an understanding as to why the “progressive” utopian welfare state hacks in Washington don’t give a damn WHAT you think. Their power to create all the “money” they need to fuel their infernal machine and fill the gaping maws of enough of those growing hoards of welfare constituents to assure their perpetual re-election means that — ready — THEY NO LONGER NEED YOU! They have become, as Mr. Jefferson predicted, our MASTERS.

We won’t have even a CHANCE at an honest government until we again have HONEST MONEY.

That they are taking down a nation and a system that has provided more wealth, safety and abundance to more people than any other in history matters not to them. Failing to grasp the lesson of the French Revolution, they believe themselves to be above the impending disaster.

We’re running out of time to get this increasingly rapacious beast back into the cage from which we have carelessly allowed it to escape.

Dick Bachert

PS: I was a 3 year member of the national board of CATS (Citizens for an Alternative Tax System), the precursor to the current Fair Tax organization. I fully support the concept of a CONSUMPTION TAX over the current Marxist INCOME TAX. That said, UNTIL WE GET BACK TO HONEST “MONEY”, WERE REARRANGING DECK CHAIRS ON A SINKING SHIP.

I remember when I was in college the left demonized Reagan and said he was crazy and not worth listening to. I believed it then.

How wrong they were and are now.

Cruz is exactly like Reagan expect better educated.

We should really get behind him for president.

You should read the book "In His Own Hand" to learn just how brilliant Reagan was. The same would probably apply to Dan Quayle if you believed the other cr@p they fed you in school.

Then look at Joe Biden and Hillary and Bill and remember how smart you were told they were.
