I skied at Vail once. It was typical winter weather at the top and about 60 while having a post run beer on the deck.

Lots of science fiction features the Earth under UN control. Of course there is never a problem with that unless some terrorist nationalists are running around killing puppies and kittens. As soon as I see the UN in the plot I cross that author off my list.
