A new Gravis Marketing poll (conducted Feb. 10 12; sampling 729 likely Texas Republican primary voters) may be a harbinger of trouble for establishment Republican Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
He faces Rep. Steve Stockman, Tea Party favorite Dwayne Stovall, and five others in a March 4 Republican primary election. If no candidate receives an absolute majority (50 percent plus one vote), the top two will face off in a May 27 run-off contest. The eventual Republican nominee will be a prohibitive favorite in the 2014 general election.
The run-off system is designed to ensure that the winning candidate receives a majority of support from the party voters. Therefore, when a universally known candidate in a primary race is forced to a secondary vote, like Sen. Cornyn in this case, the political death knell is usually sounded. The fact that a majority of the primary voters have already chosen an alternative candidate despite being keenly familiar with the front-runner normally spells eventual defeat for the under-performing first place finisher.
Sen. Ted Cruzs (R-Texas) 2012 electoral situation becomes an obvious model for the race in which Stockman, Stovall, and five others are currently embroiled with Mr. Cornyn.
The challengers objective will be to place second, and deny the senator outright victory on March 4. Two years ago, Mr. Cruz scored 34.2 percent of the vote in a Republican primary field of nine candidates, holding favored candidate David Dewhurst, the states sitting lieutenant governor, to 44.6 percent. In the run-off, with 22 percents less voters participating than from the first vote, Cruz went on to swamp Dewhurst, 57 to 43 percent.
Could the same fate await Cornyn?

You send a check to Stovall. I’ll send one to Stockwell. (Rhetorically speaking)
What this means is a runoff. I wonder what Corny will feel in May when he faces on or the other?
And heres primary vote split by key county for 2012 Senate race when Dewhurst was the RINO favorite:
2012 Dewhurst Vote % in Senate Primary By Select Large Counties:
Denton 31%
Collin 31%
Dallas 33%
Tarrant 34%
Montgomery 38%
Bexar 41%
Travis 41%
Williamson 43%
Fort Bend 44%
Harris 46%
Brazoria 46%
Galveston 47%
Lubbock 48%
State Average 45%
Remaining vote = Anyone But Dewhurst
Stockman. Not Stockwell. (Hoo Boy)
Really?
It seems to me that John Wayne McCornyn is telling us who he fears the most with his attack mailings on STOCKMAN.
Wonderful news!

Since you’ve copied and pasted your post in at least one other thread, I’ll re-post my response to it here for the benefit of others who haven’t read it:
With all due respect, the current strategy of electing and re-electing RINOs because theyre still better than Democrats hasnt exactly done a whole lot to advance the country in a more Constitutional conservative direction either, has it? I mean, what good is a best case scenario of a Republican presidency and a Republican-controlled Congress if theyre populated with RINOs too timid or content with the status quo to take bold steps to reverse our current trajectory toward economic and cultural collapse?? Recent history has shown that a RINO-infested Congress basically moves us in the same direction as a radical left-wing Congress, only a little slower.
I would argue that if the spineless, gutless idiots in the RNC and GOP leadership would actually start proactively ENDORSING, FUNDING, and CAMPAIGNING for our Tea Party nominees, like they always demand WE do for THEIR establishment candidates, perhaps the outcomes in the most recent Senate races in IN and MO, or the governors race in VA, might have turned out much differently??
Cornyn will get over 50%. Live with it!
I loved Ann Coulter last night on Hannity. She called out these phonies and frauds who are trying to claim the “Tea Party Banner”. Better take a closer look at some of these guys who proclaim what they really aren’t.
Stovall and Stockman are each devouring the other’s final chances in the overall race. It is highly unlikely that Cornyn will not be one of the two remaining contenders, as the general run of Texas Republicans will still deliver a sufficiently large vote to assure him of a place in a runoff.
Regardless of whether Stovall or Stockman is runner-up, their best strategy then would be to unite their campaign strategies after the first primary, and carry a broad message of what the successful one is in favor of, not just let it devolve into ammunition for the liberal Democrat opponent in the general election.
I still have faith in the good will and good sense of the majority of Texas voters.
“Really?

Or it could be to set Stockman up as his main opponent so more people would vote for Stockman whom Cornyn thinks is vulnerable in a run-off.
This Ann Coulter?
Three Cheers for Romneycare!

THAT is hilarious. So, Stockman and now Stovall pretty much have McCornpone running around in circles. Love it!!
Let us pray. :-)
I guess according to you and some others, you are on a warpath against the GOP, even if it means electing Democrats who all support Obama’s agenda.
Obama thanks you.

You know, you’re sounding awfully smug and comfortable with the prospect of Cornyn getting over 50% as you also cheer on Ann Coulter’s most recent anti-Tea Party comments. A cursory glance through your recent posting history here on FR also reveals you to be awfully anti-Ted Cruz too.
Hmmm... Come to think of it, “Old Retired Army Guy” would sure make a perfect cover and ID handle for a stealth DU troll trying to dispirit FReepers!
Stovall!
Burn witch, burn!!!
