Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Or perhaps the hickory nut doesn’t fall far from the tree would be more apt.

You just contradicted yourself.

I don't think so.I was asked if I wanted life for those who steal $250....I said no,not for a first offense. However, under "three strikes" laws (which I support) I can support life for someone who has two previous felonies and then commits a third...even if the third one is stealing $250

The law doesn’t care!A felon is a felon that affects peoples rights. That’s the problem.

In modern day “justice”, people can murder and be out in ten years.

Also many criminals have very long records with crime after crime after crime.

Why the hell should those subhumans vote?

If someone commits a non violent felony (ONE) and does not re-offend for a specific number of years, I might agree.

But it is a states’ issue, NOT fed.

And yes,*all* felonies qualify as being serious enough to carry with them a lifelong penalty.

No,not life in *prison* (for a first offense)

And my position on felons voting remains unchanged.

OK...contradictions.Perhaps I didn't express myself clearly (which has been known to happen)...by "lifelong penalty" I wasn't talking about prison.IMO it's quite silly to sentence someone to life for a first offense of stealing $250.The "lifelong penalty" I was thinking of for such a conviction can,and should,be lifelong denial of voting rights...assuming that crime was classified as a felony.

There,that should clear things up.

and a PS ... restore gun rights also.

Agreed. Once they've served their time,, they should have all the rights associated with being a citizen. The idea of permanently removing rights is wrong at a fundamental level.

Why should society give a flying sh!t about an ex-felon when we just spent millions supporting this criminal in prison?

“Why should society give a flying sh!t about an ex-felon when we just spent millions supporting this criminal in prison?”

Never mind “society”, why does Rand Paul think this is the most pressing issue the country faces?

In your lovely state theft of items of a value of $250 or more is a felony. That should carry a life sentence?

Or picking up an eagle feather when out hiking.

This is one of those issues that really brings out the police state supporters.

PLEASE HELP THIS 8 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRL GET THE JUSTICE THAT WAS PROMISED HER MOM 20 YRS AGO, GOVERNOR’S EMAIL ADD IS AT BOTTOM.

END THE SENSELESS APPEALS PROCESS!
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2012/dec/20/millington-death-row-inmate-loses-bid-to-reopen/?print=1
This is going on 20 years of appeals. DNA & confession proved he did it.

He raped, strangled to death with her OWN SHOE LACES Nicki Read and then threw her body in the river. Even helped hunt for what was thought to be a missing child. The INJUSTICE system does not give a flip how much money or grief it causes the victim’s family to have this crap delayed and delayed, and then finally some anti-death penalty justice will void the sentence and give life with parole, which means more grief to fight the suckers. And criminals have MORE rights that the victim or victim’s family!
Governor Bill Halsam has yet to set a date or sign the death warrant, ask him how long Nicki’s mom has to wait for justice.

Why is Paul worried about this crap?

Because he is a salesman of crap. Like Huckabee, only a different flavor.

He’s angling for pot head and meth head vote

So if someone was a pothead or methhead 20 years ago, did some time and has been straight ever since - should they be allowed to vote?

I like the ideas a couple people had that if incarcerated 5 years then after 5 years with no incarceration they should again be allowed to vote.

Also if a non-violent felon, I see no reason why they would not be allowed to bear arms. Just because someone smoked pot in the 60's doesn't mean they should no longer be allowed their 2nd amendment rights (God given - not state given)

Yes, it does and it’s a pretty petty thing for everyone who is not a felon. Especially compared to 2nd Amend. rights IMO. I guess the jackboot instinct is pretty strong.
