Maybe the first Russian phased-array antenna. However for the rest of the world, Karl Braun did it in 1905; many others followed.
It would have been ahead of it’s time....if they had developed it in 1965 instead of 1975!!!
has to start with an “F” like fishbed, flanker, etc.
how about “Fireball”? “Flame-Trail”? “FacePlant”?
Wasn’t the Mig-31 a revamp of the Mig-25 Foxbat?
The Mig-25 had about thirty seconds on full after burner. It was basically a missile with a pilot....it’s bark was way more than it’s bite. When Viktor Belenko defected the Mig-25 was exposed for what it was.....a propaganda piece!! The Mig-31 was the Mig-25 with a really fancy radar!!!
“As a non-expert, I’m a tad confused.
1. The design is obviously pre-stealth..possibly not that important i that it seems to be viewed as a defensive fighter..protect the Rodina..”
That plane the F-25 was designed as an interceptor. If it really got into a dog fight it would have been turned into dog food since it had very poor maneuverability.
C’mon. It was a top interceptor and virtually invincible by earlier 1990s unless some camel jockeys abused it and tried to pull turns against F-15s. AFAIK it’s earlier variant scored a first kill in a Gulf War against USN F-18. It’s radar proved to be immune to countermeasures as well, Iraqi Foxbats disrupted numerous Allied sorties at the time.
Ahead of its time?
It’s time must be 1975...................
“The MiG-31 is capable of intercepting and destroying any target from low-flying satellites to cruise missiles. A group of interceptors can control a large portion of air space, by directing fighters to any target, as well as ground-based anti-aircraft missiles.”
(wondering why Saddam buried his MiG-31’s in the sand)
But there was no CGI how could there be a movie made without CGI.... MODELS!!!
In fact he had earlier version, powered by inferior engines, using 1960s avionics.
They still scored well in the Gulf War, considering the fact how badly Saddam’s AF was outnumbered and outgunned.

A mig-25 was flown to Japan by a Russian Pilot and the USAF was able to take that plane and fly it and they determined that it was designed to be a point Defence interceptor to shoot down bombers and possibly the SR-71.
As quick as the mig 25 was it never got close.
This information allowed the U.S. To build the F-15 knowing it would have the ability to out fight the FoxBat.
I see Baghdad Bob is alive and well, posting on Free Republic.
I remember being home on leave at my friend’s house who’d just gotten cable. That movie was on all the movie channels, staggered so that it seemed you could pick it up at any point in the film by switching channels.

...Comparing to the rest Iraqi assets! At least one USN jet shot down and a dozen mission kills were a success comparing to overall performance of Iraqi AF during Gulf War.
Okay, Bob, Ya got Scott, but what does 'a dozen mission kills' refer to?

A wing of F-111s or Tornadoes dropped their loads short of target and chased away by Foxbat is a mission kill and a success in terms of air defence.
I have no idea why are you painting me sympathetic to an Iraqi cause which I obviously don’t.
We are discussing a weapons platform here.
If the shoe fits.....wear it.
