It was a great two weeks of hockey. Congrats to Canada for an outstanding performance and to Stevie Y for putting together a Gold Medal team. Now Mike Babcock go back to Detroit and let’s win the Stanley Cup.

Still having trouble dealing with the Canadian women yelling “In your face, America” when they won last week. Didn’t think they’d be that nasty, after all, it was a good game. Surprised me.

I don't get it.

The USA Women’s loss really was tough. My Canadian Friends started calling non stop. We need more indoor rinks, all over this Country. Hockey is strong along the border and in the NorthEast. Be a different story if hockey was a bigger sport in the USA. Maybe someday?

It's not a matter of having more facilities. It's all about passion, commitment, and a deeply rooted hockey culture.
The 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team was comprised of players who were almost all from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Massachusetts. Four or five of them came from an area in the Iron Range region of Minnesota within 100 miles of the location of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in Virginia, MN.

There were at least three good brawls between the two teams in exhibition games—search you tube. The general pattern is that the U.S. hits very aggressively until the Canadians have enough and pile in. Given that history, the verbal attitude isn’t that surprising.

Agreed on the culture. I grew up in Oregon but am raising a family on the northern edges of cottage country in Ontario. We are a bookish family, but I am sure that even the most bookish of my kids will skate circles around all of their American cousins (who are largely in Ohio).
Each of the last three months have seen maybe 12 hours above freezing, and while things will improve in March, between now and the 9th (which is as far as the long-range forecast goes) nothing is supposed to melt. There has to be an upside—and this is it.

What percentage of the players on the “U.S.” teams winning the cup are hired guns from north of the border?
