Just a day after raising eyebrows by calling Johnny Manziel an "arrogant little prick" on a St. Louis radio station, Barry Switzer is back in the headlines, this time for saying he would never recruit a white quarterback.
The former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach made the comment during an interview on WNSR in Nashville on Thursday as part of a response to a question about whether he would want Manziel in his backfield.
Specifically, the question was, "If you are a coach in the NFL at this point in time — we know your opinion on Johnny and his mental state on and off the field, but we also know how much you think of him as a football player — is this a guy, in Johnny Manziel, that you would draft or you would want your team to draft, and would you have him as your starting quarterback on your roster?"

Switzer could never build or coach a successful NFL team. I'm sure even Jerry Jones regrets hiring him.

If you knew Switzer, you would probably say he was drunk during the interview. He’s that way often.
Good thing he didn’t say a black QB or, especially, a Gay QB.
The media will laugh at Switzer as a crazy uncle type and then move on. No phony outrage required.
He’s right Johnny is a prick, guess it takes one to know one, but how he plays on the field is all that matters. Ball is in Johnny’s court, back your arrogance up with TD’s and rushing yards.

Switzer is not a drunk and it is hilarious that the Cowboys have been so bad since he left. Yea that’s Switzer’s fault some 20sh years ago.
That said that was a dumb thing to say about a white QB. Especially since his most successful QB was white, Steve Davis.

Of course it's not all Switzers fault. But Switzer was handed a great team that had just won two Superbowls in a row and in a few years turned it into a bad team.
He coached the team he had to a Super Bowl championship. Johnson didn’t do so well when he tried again. Switzer was always smart enough to know that “it’s not the X’s and O’s but the Johnys and Joes”. Even though I think that sold him a little short. He was a great coach.

Switzer could occasionally call in to our local sports radio station, The Ticket and they always commented on him being an “undercusser”, so they did a little bit featuring him....

That really wasn’t on Barry though. Remember he came in around the same time as the cap and the Cowboys weren’t in good shape for the cap. Then they did the absolute worst thing you can do in a capped league and deferred a bunch of salary (sure you get to keep some stars today, but you’ve mortgaged the future). Then everybody got old. Star teams unwind, it’s a natural part of sports, when the GM doesn’t know what he’s doing they unwind faster.
I suggest anyone who wants to know what kind of person Switzer is, should read “Down and Dirty” by Charles Thompson.
The Oklahoma program under Switzer was just about as corrupt as it is possible to get.
