Rubio gets second look from GOP after Venezuela speech
MSNBC ^ | February 28, 2014 | Benjy Sarlin

2013 wasn’t the greatest year for Sen. Marco Rubio. After starting out as the tentative GOP frontrunner for president, the Florida Republican devoted himself to passing immigration reform only to awkwardly back away from the issue after conservatives rebelled. While he was busy regaining his footing, the Senate’s tea party stars Ted Cruz and Rand Paul outflanked him with the grassroots. A then-ascendant New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie rallied the donor class.

But now, for the first time in a long while, Rubio is getting another look from his skeptics on the right.

On Monday, the son of Cuban immigrants delivered an impassioned polemic against communism from the Senate floor, lighting into his Democratic colleague Tom Harkin for praising the Castro government’s national health care system after a recent visit.

Rubio is dead to me and if GOP primary voters give him a second look because he gave a speech about two Latin American hell holes then damned them for being cheap dates.

When Rubio makes as full-throated a denouncement of amnesty then, maybe, I'll give him a second look.

Yep. Dead to me might be strong, but he really showed his ass during immigration. Not just for bad policy, but for his pathetic pseudo-slick sales job. He lied (was misleading, in political talk), did the rush job without considering options, and just came across bad. He was everything he ran against.

He’s still really good on most issues, so he’s not dead to me, but I have little to no interest in a presidential run. He’s not up to it, or not ready at minimum. Like a Rand Paul, who I agree with 75% of the time or more, I am not going to toss them aside because they are assets to us on most issues. 2013 showed Rubio is willing to evolve into a typical DC politician when needed.

I suspected they were trying to repair Rubio’s reputation and it appears that I was correct.

Ahh yes, Rubio.

Looks like the MSM’s Republican sacrificial lamb for 2016. Which means Castro from San Antonio is the VP on Hillary’s ticket.

Ted Cruz and Rand Paul outflanked him with the grassroots. ____________________________________________________________ Not so anymore. Rand Paul pissed into the wind when he endorsed, and is actively campaigning for, Mitch McConnell against a good Conservative, Matt Bevin. I would not vote for Rand Paul for anything. Rand Paul duped us Tea Party Folks. He's just another Inside-the-Beltway political whore.

Its one thing when a ‘conservative’ has an issue or two that don’t match up with mainstream conservatism. But its a whole other problem when that person works hand in hand with leftist commies, gets on TV and radio and LIES over and over to conservatives and then goes on Mexican TV where he thinks we are too stupid to notice and tells them the opposite of what he’s been telling us. This guy is a total liar, he has no integrity. He’s a total RINO and we should use him for what he’s worth today and then flush him when the time comes.

Rubio does not have the maturity or the gravitas to be President of the United States. Not to mention he’s a total RINO.

Rubio is my Senator....he really pissed me off when he basically was taken a for ride via Schumer and McCain on amnesty....

He was sucked into their game with the promise of power and media attention...

Hope he learned his lesson....

It’s one I thought he already knew....

Despite this one blaring flaw...he is better than most of the dickweeds who call themselves Senators....

Just tells me is isn’t ready for prime time...

Rubio is the poster boy for Amnesty.

He will never win the Republican nomination for President or Vice President.

He sold his soul to Chuck Schumer.

Rubio lied to us in his effort to get a law passed that would eventually turn us into another Venezuela.

He is beyond political redemption IMO.

Wow! MSNBC has declared Rubio rehabilitated! What’s next? An appearance on “Morning Joe” where he’s personally endorsed by Mika?
