Yup. I was armed to the teeth when I was a kid. Cap guns, squirt guns, bb guns, pocket knives, sling shots, blow guns (straws).
An armed populace WAS [ AND REMAINS ] a polite populace.
REGARDLESS of the level....armaments they posess.

I even brought a big bang cannon to school and used it in a 6 th grade science project
When I was a very little girl, we had a rope-and-board swing on our big tree. I used to straddle the swing in my gowgirl get-up and pretend shoot of my little cow (boy)(girl)capgun.
