Obamacare Architect: 'You Don't Need a Doctor for Every Part of Your Health Care'

(CNSNews.com) - Under the Affordable Care Act, the Health and Human Services Department is spending billions of dollars to expand community health clinics, which are mainly staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

"It's going to be one part of a complex part of the health care system," Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, one of the architects of Obamacare, told Fox News's Bill O'Reilly Tuesday night. "So if your kid has a sore throat and you want to find out if it's strep throat, or your kid has what appears to be an ear infection and you want to find out if it's otitis media -- you really don't need to go to the pediatrician. You can go to these clinics."

"But there aren't any doctors," O'Reilly said.

"Well, you don't need a doctor for every part of your health care," Emanuel responded.

"You don't need a doctor," O'Reilly echoed. "If I want a strep throat diagnosis, I don't want Lenny who just came out of the community college..."

"Excuse me, but those are nurse practitioners -- it's not Lenny out of a community college," Emanuel said. "And it is just putting a swab back there and getting a strep throat assessment."

Emanuel said electronic health records make it possible for the clinic to send the diagnosis to a patient's primary physician.

"Are you worried?" O'Reilly asked. "Say you had VD, STD -- I'm sure you don't."

"Please, don't insult me," Emanuel replied.

O'Reilly said he's worried about the privacy of electronic medical records.

"We have laws to protect the privacy," Emanuel said. Several times, he accused O'Reilly of "sowing fear with no grounds."

"You know me, I'm afraid of everything," O'Reilly said. "Say TMZ offers somebody like $5,000 to get a famous person's medical records. Is that unheard of? Is that unheard of? Come on, is that unheard of? You know it goes on all the time."

"They will not, they have high security and everyone is well aware of this, and they are taking it seriously. And if they -- if they didn't, they would have already offered that for electronic health records and we would have seen the breach."

Emanuel said 80 percent of doctors now use electronic health records -- "and there has not been that kind of breach... And there is not a single case, Mr. O'Reilly, of those medical records being breached for things like STDs or a very famous Hollywood star's medical records."

There is something extremely unlikable about Ezekiel Emmanuel.

I think it’s his sneering arrogant master of the universe demeanor.

The question should have been “And what’s next if the kid DOES have strep throat? Who administers the treatment?”

Well...He's right, and not projecting...at all...

I have already had one doctor quit, and the one I moved to is thinking seriously about it.

So my guess is that this is the designed plan, and that very much like my own profession, there will be a master and a bunch of apprentices.

You will never see the master...He will just sign off on the paperwork and take the financial risks..and some supervision.

The VA has also done this in advance of Obama care....so I quit going to them three or four years back..

So now it's a case of what to do....No doctor or a “assistant”.

Been weaning myself off my meds....Have no immediate plans to see anyone anymore..

“And we’ll decide when you do and do not need one, thank you.

“Clearly, you’re too stupid to know.”

And yet the cost of healthcare is skyrocketing and overall quality is slowly declining....observations from over 34 years in ‘the trenches’.

Community Clinics are the new name for the old Free Clinics. Payment is as able. They’re funded by a private/public funds combination with the public funds being Fed, State, and Local. They usually have a combination of NP’s and physicians (frequently volunteers) on staff.

NP’s are actually a good choice for routine stuff. A lot of states have “Doc in a Box’s” in pharmacies, grocery stores, etc. staffed by NP’s.

My family doc triages things like cold and flu to their in-house NP. It gives them “walk in” capability. She actually caught something the Doc had overlooked last time.

So if I rarely need (or get) to see a doctor, then I certainly don’t need to spend $500 a month with a deductible of $6250 a year for ZeroCare.

This bothers me. If everyone has ObamaCare why are these community health clinics needed? Who will use them? If you can get “free” care at these why would anyone buy ObamaCare?

Good question. A sizable portion of the argument regarding the need for ObieCare was based on claims that didn't accurately report the state of the current system. A portion of those who supposedly have "no access to healthcare" have been using community clinics for decades. And, of course a lot of them go to emergency rooms.

When it comes to primary care for the poor, spending Fed money for Community Clinics is a much more efficient use of funds than the ObieCare approach. Not as much opportunity for graft, though, so the politicians wouldn't be enthused.

No, you need protection from the extreme costs associated with serious illnesses and accidents by being able to insure those risks, and a couple of grand in a savings account to cover routine stuff. In the new America, though, the government will no longer allow you to exercise that option. They have a deep dislike for letting citizens do that whole “choice thing”.

I’d love to have that “protection,” but unfortunately it costs about 20% of our income. According to ZeroCare, the good news is we don’t have to pay the penalty. However, the bad news is....we still don’t have health insurance. So we’ll just have to take our chances until 2018 when we qualify for Medicare, if it’s still around then. FUBO.

There have been dozens of cases where the medical records of famous people were breached. Virtually every time one of them goes to the hospital a nurse or ten gets fired for looking at the records.
