Ted Cruz: Obama misread ‘KGB thug’
Politico ^ | 3/6/14 2:19 PM EST | NATALIE VILLACORTA

Like Speaker John Boehner, Sen. Ted Cruz thinks Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “KGB thug,” who President Barack Obama has underestimated far too much.

Cruz said Obama has taken too seriously to heart Putin’s assertion that encouraging American exceptionalism is dangerous.

“Putin has a point,” Cruz said Thursday at the National Security Action Summit hosted by the Breitbart News Network, at National Harbor, Md., across the street from the Conservative Political Action Conference. American exceptionalism has been dangerous — to tyrants and dictators.

(WATCH: CPAC 2014 videos)

Obama, Cruz said, has been “hiding behind diplomatic babble,” encouraging such tyrants when he “obscures the truth” and hides from aggression. Putin, at least, is “candid.”

He pointed to Obama’s statement Wednesday that “President Putin seems to have a different set of lawyers making a different set of interpretations,” calling it “so absurd the writers of ‘Saturday Night Live’ could not have come up with it.”

“No one thinks that Putin is consulting with lawyers,” Cruz said, provoking laughter.

Cruz went on to discuss Venezuela, saying the protests mirror the situation in Ukraine. He also raised the nuclear threat of Iran, calling the nuclear deal reached last fall “a tragic, historic mistake.” Iran cannot be trusted, he said, not to drop a nuclear bomb on Tel Aviv.

“Any responsible” president, Cruz said, would under no circumstances allow Iran nuclear weapon capability.

“Weakness and appeasement only invites military conflict,” Cruz reiterated, and the Obama administration doesn’t understand that.

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

‘Reading’ Putin as a thug is the ‘See Spot Run’ of global politics.

How ANYONE could mistake Vlad’s intentions is incredible....

Just looking at the traditional Russian pre occupation with E. Europe would be ENOUGH to tell you that Vlad would NEVER be indifferent about it!

Putin, a thug?

I think not. Coach Lombardi, Knute Rockne et al, did not refer to the coaches of teams that whipped'em as "thugs." This guy just ain't on our team and is doing a far better job on the field than our leader.

You want "thugs?" Look in Cuba, Venezuela, Dennis Conyers' office. Crimea? That's over. Part of the Rodina ... Mother Russia. Let the coalition that stole Kosovo from Serbia bitch and moan all they want. Game over.

America looks at Putin as an evil opponent, while continuing to export America’s industrial backbone to a communist nation with five times our population...

Just saying.

God forbid we should call a gun grabbing, anti freech speech, pro Chevez, pro Ahmadinejad Putin a "thug".

My goodness. What was Ted Cruz thinking.

You can call Putin anything you want. Personally I am tired of the President of the US looking ‘average’ or in the cast of Obama, like he doesn’t know what it means to be the leader of the free world. I want our next president to be capable of something other than adolescent type behavior. Name calling isn’t high on my list admirable qualities.Oh, but what was I thinking!!

Yeah "adolescent" Ronald Reagan incapable of doing anything other than calling the Soviet Union the Evil Empire. What was he thinking, right?

I am sure you can come up with other examples where name calling of countries and name calling of individuals has been done. I don’t care. Name calling, especially of foreign leaders, is not something I approve of.

History shows that Adolph Hitler was, in fact, a poopyhead.

I apologize.

So Putin is president of Russia, that means he can’t be a thug like the president of Cuba or Venezuela? LMAO Sure he can, just like them. He is proving it now in the Ukraine.
