The reality is that Texas Instruments has a plant in Malaysia. As to why that plant isn’t in the USA, while chip manufacturing is indeed _very_ hazardous work, the regulations on it go beyond reasonable now in the US, not to mention energy costs (for both manufacturing and transport to customers).

I’m just thinking out loud here but does TI manufacuture any of the chips found in the electronic voting machines?

Their operation in Malaysia is a final packaging/ssembly/test/ facility. The majority of their wafer fab (front end) operations are stateside. They are one of the top microcontroller suppliers to the automotive electronics business.
