Saturday European officials indicated two of the people on board were using passports that had been stolen in Thailand. On Sunday Malaysia’s transport minister, Hishammuddin Hussein, said Malaysian intelligence officials were also checking the identities of two other passengers, according to The Associated Press.

“All the four names are with me and have been given to our intelligence agencies,” Hishammuddin said, according to The AP. “We do not want to target only the four; we are investigating the whole passenger manifest. We are looking at all possibilities.”

As you say, why not have a theory? People criticize Freepers for speculation, but it’s pretty harmless as long as it doesn’t go into full-blown nutty conspiracies ... you know, where the eeevil George Bush did it all from his ranch in Texas or something.

It is very possible that for one reason or another, they never got to carry out their entire plan. Perhaps something they were carrying detonated too soon and they never really got to take control of the plane.

I assume the plane was destroyed rather than hijacked to another destination, since there seem to be no electronic signals of any kind coming from it.

Is there no way of getting a passive communication out of a modern plane? It’s hard to believe that there’s not some electronic way of at least “pinging” them to find out if they still exist, even if full communications aren’t possible. Or would it be possible for terrorists to disable such a passive system? Again, I don’t know a thing about planes, so I’m probably asking a stupid question.

I think that answers the question of whether the plane still exists or not.

A man claims he and a colleague were intended to be on the China-bound Malaysian jet that has gone missing, sparking concerns of a potential act of terror. Only “by the grace of God” did they miss flight MH370, Twitter user @KaidenDL said.

I forgot to add the “?” after “related” . . . I thought the same as you but thought it worth posting a link to that story in this thread anyway.
Thanks, again.

The plane had a meter long piece of the wing clipped off several years ago in a ground collision. I’m no metallurgist, but I would think a jolt like that could leave a undetectable hairline crack near the fuselage.

“but found NOTHING at this point to indicate foul play”

How could flying with a false identity with stolen passports NOT be foul play?

When I was traveling a couple years ago to that part of the world, Japanese version of TSA told us that they were required by our USA govt to do pat downs. If they want to access our airports, they have to do this. So I had a little old lady pat me and my husband down, it was funny. However, the Korean kid that was next in line, got taken out of the line and subjected to much more.

Seriously doubt it. I am very familiar withe this firm and their KLM site. “Top Management” is not necessarily who was on the plane. They employ thousands in Malaysia. This is a very globalized company with a large travel budget. I’ve flown in very comparable sized groups like this and also observe the same with other firms when traveling. They have many partners in their customer and supply chain that demand constant travel.

These people along with the rest of the innocent passengers and crew were simply on the wrong plane that day.
