The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has thickened somewhat as family members of passengers have reported mobile phones ringing, but nobody answering.

International Business Times reports that 19 families have signed a joint statement saying that passengers' cell phones connected after the flight had been reported missing. In each case, the phone would ring, but the call would be hung up.

The sister of one of the Chinese passengers among the 239 people on board the missing flight rang his phone live on TV twice at 11:40 on Sunday morning and heard it ringing. She called again later that afternoon and heard it ring once more.

The Mirror reports that she expressed her hope that if the call went through, police could locate the position.

A man from Beijing also called his missing brother, and reported to the airline that the phone connected three times and rang before appearing to hang up.

Relatives who signed the joint statement have asked Malaysia Airlines to reveal any information they may have been hiding.

It was the 39 Fair I think too. I remember they kept referring to an airport as Idelwild, and the man in ground control had no idea what he was referring to.

I’m so grateful TZ is on Netflix. I can watch it over and over again. Great stuff.

I remember the “To Serve Man” episode very well.

It think I was referring to a previous episode you mentioned.

It’s not a transponder. It’s a sonar pinger that is activated when entering the water. The recorders are also equipped with an emergency location beacon that transmits a signal on aviation emergency frequencies that is activated on ground impact. There are satellites that are designed to listen in on the emergency frequencies and determine their location. So the recorders have devices to transmit in the air and send out a sonar ping when in the water. Both are activated by an impact.

Why are the missing Malaysian Airlines passengers' phones still ringing?

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2578020/Why-cellphones-missing-Malaysian-Airlines-passengers-ringing-Family-members-claim-loved-ones-smartphones-active.html#ixzz2veQtuiA2 "According to the Washington Post, family of some of the 239 people on board the vanished Boeing 777 said that they were getting ring tones and could see them active online through a Chinese social networking service called QQ.

One man said that the QQ account of his brother-in-law showed him as online, but frustratingly for those waiting desperately for any news, messages sent have gone unanswered and the calls have not been picked up."

What powers the processor and the logic that connects to the sim card?

Here’s a quick answer for you... THE BATTERY!

Well, its like does a tree make a noise if no one is around to hear it when it falls...

What amazes me that a cell phone that is on will ring, back to the person who is calling that number...

If the phone is offline, it will roll right into voicemail...

Now that the media has let this cat out of the bag...Those forces holding these passengers will now turn off those phones rendering them useless for locating and or communications...

Which all of that has some extremely interesting coincidences...

I believe once you take the battery out, the whole system does not work in that device...The caller to that phone will have the call immediately routed to the voicemail, even if it is not setup by the account holder...If the phone is under power, it will ring to the appropriate amount of rings and then roll to voicemail...

Draw your conclusions...

Sure, the SIM card is a data/cell phone account piece of the system, but it still needs to have power to the reader that sees that SIM card...

When I worked on commercial aircraft long ago, the ELT’s

I can think of no reason that ELT's on commercial airliners are a waste of money because the data can be transmitted via satellite just as easy as it can be recorded on board.
