Mr. Dershowitz thinks the federal campaign fraud charges against the conservative filmmaker and author are an example of “selective prosecution.”
Weighing in on the case Friday in an interview with Law Blog, Mr. Dershowitz was withering in his opinion of the Manhattan U.S. attorney office’s prosecution of Mr. D’Souza, who pleaded not guilty last week to making illegal campaign contributions to a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in 2012.
“The idea of charging him with a felony for this doesn’t sound like a proper exercise of prosecutorial discretion,” Mr. Dershowitz said. “I can’t help but think that [D'Souza's] politics have something to do with it. . . . It smacks of selective prosecution.”

Dershowitz may be a liberal, but he does not care for underhanded operations and political retributiomn from either side.
The Department of “Just-Us” has become both highly polarized and highly politicized. Not much can be done about the situation until somehow, the Current Regime now squatting in the White Hut is evicted.

I think when Ted Cruz is president, he should appoint D’Souza as attorney general. I know, he’s not an attorney. But wouldn’t that be justice?

I was thinking about what would happen if Cruz was the new Attorney General.
Anyone with a brain on either side should know that allowing selective prosecution and retribution etc means the tables can (and maybe makes it MORE likely) be turned on YOU.
But really the evil genius of the 2 party system is it makes it like sports team rivalries. All or nothing, our team vs that team....and some fall for the “by any means necessary”.
Its why even if you think “your guy” can handle the questionable powers allowed, your guy is not going to be in power forever. It amazes me how many people on both sides fall to get that concept.
I understand the idea of “selective prosecution”, but if D’Souza used straw donors, then there’s not much to complain about.
It’ll be interesting to see what the JDept does with Jeffrey Thompson who’s accused to millions of illegal contributions to Dems!

Slightly. </sarcasm>The law(s) he is accused of breaking are “Campaign Finance Reform” laws. Those laws are, and should be held to be, unconstitutional. And if D’Souza makes that claim, Obama might prefer to back down rather than give SCOTUS - which now includes Alito, Roberts, and three justices - Scalia, Thomas, and Kennedy - who dissented from the McConnell v. FEC ruling which upheld McCain-Feingold.“Campaign Finance Reform” legislation presumes to restrict the donation of money to to be used to buy political advertising. It does not presume to touch the rights of newspapers to publish their political opinions, nor to spend their money - in unlimited amounts - doing so. But it does presume to restrict your option to spend your money to promote your opinions. Notwithstanding that the newspaper cannot - under the First Amendment - be licensed by the government. They have no qualifications whatsoever, yet CFR presumes to deny to you - and, particularly in this case, Dinesh D’Souza - a right which it doesn’t claim to have the right to touch for those who happen already to have a newspaper.
