KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- A Malaysia Airlines plane sent signals to a satellite for four hours after the aircraft went missing, an indication that it was still flying for hundreds of miles or more, a U.S. official briefed on the search said Thursday.
Six days after the plane with 239 people aboard disappeared, Malaysian authorities expanded their search westward toward India, saying the aircraft may have flown for several hours after its last contact with the ground shortly after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing.

Good point. I'm betting the powers that be know a lot more and aren't telling us. Is it because it was really hijacked, they know where the plane is, and they're keeping it quiet while they close in. Hope springs eternal. I hope those passengers are still alive.
Door swings inward and any pressure over 1 atm inside the fuselage would render impossible an in-flight opening of the door --they would have to be near sea-level with no cabin pressure at all.
Not impossible, but still hard.
People are saying the passengers would resist, but would they need to be WITTING to the take-over? Not necessarily, if the pilots OR crew were in on the take-over.
The flight was in the middle of the night, so my guess is many would be asleep over the course of the 4-hour flight and would have very few visible points of reference over the ocean.
Unless there had been a FIGHT to enter the cockpit my guess would be that they'd go to sleep totally confident of waking up in China.

You gradually decrease cabin pressure until they’re all asleep, then dead. Easily done in an hour.
Pilot on CNN tonight said landing for a 777, especially one flying light after burning most fuel, was less than 4000 feet - said there are plenty of strips as long or longer all over the world - training fields, abandoned fields from wars etc etc - said landing could be accomplished with a good on-board GPS system and would not need elaborate on-ground instruments - takeoff would take longer because of more fuel, unless it was under fueled to make a short hop to another field (maybe after being repainted and repurposed????).....
Serve them all the fish for dinner.
So then whats the point of hijacking it? Its WAY easier to purchase a plane than to pull something like this off.

Well, we don’t know. How easy is it to buy a passenger jet liner? especially if you’re Al Qaeda.

Why would you need a 777? You just need a large plane that could fly overseas. There are plenty of them.
What do you mean not talking? US officials just told the whole world they have data from the plane and where it was when it last transmitted.

Just last month an Ethiopian co-pilot hijacked his own flight from Rome to Geneva. Hard for passengers to stop such.
Why go to the trouble?
Maybe CNN did it to boost their ratings! It certainly been better for them than sucking up to Obama.
So the bad actor is a COUNTRY? Says who? Why must that be so..?
A non-state actor probably does not have the budget or certs required to buy such a huge plane, post 9-11.
This is some entity that wants a delivery system but cannot pay for it.
Is it? So far I see it being done by one person. Pilot kills co-pilot, dons oxygen mask, depressurizes cabin. Done.
