I want to add that for any and all of these men who deserve this honor they should receive it. It is a shame they were not awarded it when they were still alive and a shame they must be awarded it by a caricature of a president.
Amen. There certainly have been deserving who did not get the award because of luck, and because of descrimination. If they are actually deserving, then there should be no problem in them being given the award - though who is giving it does unfortunately diminish the honor somewhat at the moment.
Any time he’s caught with egg on his face, out comes the race card... becoming more frequent as the day passes.
Each and everyone deserves the medal they received due to their actions. But due to possible discrimination it was not awarded, what a shame. My father got out of the Army in 46, I got out in 72. Both seen our share if discrimination.
Getting a medal from Zer0 would be like, as the saying goes..kissing you sister.
Decisions decisions.
you are perfectly within your rights to buy the administration spiel if you like
I don’t have to
Those men’s action are on record it’s not spiel, sometimes you have to go back and right some wrong’s. This investigation was started long before Obama took office.
you are deluded if you think this administration does anything straight
I am sorry, but a massed presentation, 24 Medals of Honor, cheapens the Medal.
All to often the Medal of Honor is “won” at the cost of the winner’s life. Right behind that is numerous injuries.
IMHO it would be much better that the Medals be presented individually on the date of the event that generated the Medal’s citation. But, that would show respect (sorry rspect) for the Medal and the men who “won” it.
These people are not getting a MOH out of the blue. This process started 12 years ago, and it sounds like all of them are getting an upgrade from a DSC, Navy Cross or AF Cross.
This investigation was started during President Bush’s first term and done by the Pentagon. Whether you agree or disagree with their findings I could care less. If these men’s heroic actions warranted the Congressional Medal of Honor then they should damn well receive it. I’d much rather see individual ceremonies by a more honorable President but it is what it is.
“These people are not getting a MOH out of the blue. This process started 12 years ago, and it sounds like all of them are getting an upgrade from a DSC, Navy Cross or AF Cross.”
As well they should.
How am I required to agree with you?
Believe what you want
Individuals in both groups being decorated are recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second-highest award for valor in combat. This award alone is a high honor.
The upgrade to Medal of Honor in every instance is going to individuals based on ethnicity issues, real or imagined, that possibly prevented them from receiving the medal originally.
It's interesting that both presidents handing out this award never served a day in the U.S. military. President Bill Clinton was a draft dodger from the Vietnam era.
Obama's reason for not serving is more obscure, much like the rest of his past.
Of the 45 individuals awarded the medal by Clinton, or about to receive it from Obama, no doubt a few are deserving. Certainly not all.
This is nothing more than a cynical political ploy by two Democrat presidents to pander to their constituent base.
The prestige of the Medal of Honor is being diminished greatly by awarding it in such a cavalier fashion.
PS ... I should add as a measure of contrast the Marines 'Chesty' Puller was awarded the Navy Cross five times (the Navy's equivalent to the DSC) and one Distinguished Service Cross.
Not aware of any effort to upgrade any of General 'Chesty' Puller's six medals to MOH status. No further comment needed.
Thanks, for the common sense. You just have to read the story of Tibor Rubin to understand how this could happen.
Pardon me but I’ve already told you I could care less whether you agree or not. The Pentagon agrees and I agree with them, your thoughts from this point on are irrelevant. The ceremony will go on and the nation will finally show the Honor and respect deserved to these men. Have a nice day.
you too
Sir I witnessed the action’s of a Medal of Honor recipient, he saved the lives of 9 of us due to his actions. It took 8 of us 17 years to get the Pentagon to acknowledge this mans actions, 5 of us made it to the ceremony, that’s all of us that were left. And I’m done discussing this thread, my heart is pained!
I don ‘t blame you; some people are consumed with hate.
Lucky for us that the Democrats chose a Commander in Chief with no previous US Military experience, is an arrogant Nobel Peace Prize winner, who wears Mom Jeans that makes him look like an ass when he leads from behind.
FORWARD !
