The Runway is on a heading of 360 and the sighting was @90 miles away on the downwind approach south/southwest of the runway, just where I would expect to find FLT370 sneaking in for a quick landing and refuel. If the sightings are valid and I believe they are satellite images should pick up a departure and track it to the next destination.
Gotta wonder if they shut down the tower at night. With an early AM landing — and the Maldives would be going away from the sun for 370-— then maybe if there was not official collusion then this was a definitely well schemed out plan with hard core Islamists there on the scene to man the fuel trucks.
Also, will need armed guards to keep any passengers from escaping-— if any were still alive-— and to keep any honest locals from interfering.
