Gov. Deval Patrick moves to offset federal cut in SNAP benefits by investing millions in state money

Following a change in the rules incorporated in the new federal farm bill, Gov. Deval Patrick’s administration announced on Tuesday that the state would be investing $3 million in additional home heating assistance for families to avoid the potential loss of up to $142 million in food stamp benefits for 163,000 families.

Under the initiative, the Department of Transitional Assistance will be partnering with the Department of Housing and Community Development to provide at least $20 in heating assistance to eligible families through the H-EAT programs. The subsidy will qualify those families for an additional $80 in monthly Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program benefits that might have been lost under new federal rules included in the farm bill that made qualifying for the SNAP benefits more difficult.

“Reversing the cuts from the Farm Bill is a major step in helping Massachusetts families work toward economic stability,” Secretary of Health and Human Services John Polanowicz said in a statement. “Any cut in benefit, no matter the size, has a real impact on low-income families, and this funding supports a program that makes a difference every day.”

When Republicans want to cut taxes, it’s an “expenditure” that must be “paid for.”

When Democrats want to raise taxes and pile on even more debt, it’s an “investment.”

Sorry but giving out more and more welfare money is hardly an “investment.” The editor must have flunked Econ 1a (while completing his Propaganda degree).

The Constitution is a list of “suggestions”.

Laws are “concepts”.

When Republicans stick together it’s “partisanship”

When Democrats stick together it’s “Solidarity”.

Taxes are “Shared Responsibility Payments”.

The internal factionalism of Democrats is “celebrating diversity.”

It’s “cracks in the façade” for Republicans.

Many of us here in Texas will gladly contribute to a fund for one-way bus tickets!

Exactly.

And when robots are doing 99% of the physical work (which will happen over about the next 10-15 years) that dynamic will lead to a demographic overthrow of the Constitutional United States.

I hope that they’re at least beefing up their fraud fighting efforts at the same time. What happened in Everett recently should be a warning to everybody. For those unaware, last month a store called A-1 Smoke and Grocery was busted for a highly sophisticated EBT fraud scheme tied in with drugs and stolen merchandise. He bought EBT cards with their PINS for as little at 14 cents on the dollar and used them to buy inventory for his own store. He also sent “customers” out with shopping lists or shoplifting lists. Most of them were downtown Everett meth addicts, evidently. Everett has a huge meth and heroin problem, as I have mentioned many times. “Spice” was also involved. The next day, Tobacco Hut, a few blocks away was busted for similar activities. The owner is an American citizen originally from Pakistan. Law enforcement learned details from drug criminals who ended up in jail and ratted out their bosses, but neighbors had also noticed strange goings-on. I personally went in there a couple of times by got annoyed when they didnt have coffee. A convenience store isn’t very convenient if it doesn’t have coffee, IMO.

Hmmmm. I think I disagree.

He is investing it in future elections to elect more Democrats. For over 70 years the investment is working far better than any 401K any working chump could put his own money into.

I see him as a strong contender for Hillary’s VP.

Surely the kind of guy to get the entitlement army to turn out on election day.
