“Equipment Bay?” -> You must mean the avionics bay like the 747 and older airliners have. Needed when electrics were huge and needed tons of cooling and power.

The 777 doesn’t have an avionics bay.

I believe this is the B777 Avionics E&E compartment:

Exerpted comment from http://www.historyofpia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18257&start=0:

"Salaam to all, Good pics, thanks for sharing, but a great picture (last one) showing the 777 MEC (e/e bay) this is near door one left, a hatch, you go down and its the compartment where most of the aircraft electrical/electronics is stored, the circuit breakers, as you can see clearly on the white panels ahead and on right side. We, engineers , often go down there to reset systems when a fault shows in the flight deck. Great picture, hope many appreciate the hidden parts of an aircraft."

Some of these inquiries at that thread should be investigated, IMO. Sounds like terrorist intelligence gathering to me, like this one:

"Does anyone know if this area can be accessed inflight? (i.e is it part of the pressurised area of the aircraft).

And also if any situation can potentially arise inflight where this area would need to be accessed?"
