“I must bow to your uneducated brilliance. Or not.”

You obviously have a closed mind and did not read any of my links nor have you any comprehension of Einsteins work related to E=MC^2.

Nor can you see the logical conclusions of YOUR posts where you say Energy and Mass are related EXCEPT in certain cases such as combustion.

“Try again.”

No. I have spent enough time trying to educate you, already. Signed ... Nuclear Engineer (retired)

“The great achievement of 20th century quantum physics has been to describe chemical reactions in terms of E = mc2.”

If the mass of the combustion byproducts equals the mass of the fuel and the oxygen it combines with, there is no change in m; E=mc^2 does not apply. The reconfiguration of chemical bonds can release energy without a net change in mass. There may be phase changes, there may be gaseous products that are difficult to weigh, but the weight is the same on both sides of the combustion equation (i.e. 2 H2 + O2=2 H2O --no mass change).

The reason so much energy is released in a nuclear reaction (detonation) is the c^2 times the relatively small mass converted.

Hey look! He played the engineer card!

So, tell me. We have been trying to contrast what are basically two different methods of generating energy in the form of heat. Your stand seems to be that, regardless of the process, mass is destroyed/converted. Is this also true then of friction?

If I rub my hands together quickly, am I then causing matter to change to energy?
