MOSCOW, March 24. /ITAR-TASS/. The leader of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko (Apple), Sergei Mitrokhin, urges the West to refrain from double standards and take note of some unacceptable aspects of Ukraine’s domestic policy, such as discrimination against ethnic minorities, Mitrokhin said in an official speech published on Monday. The speech was prepared for a panel meeting on the prospects for Russia, Ukraine, Europe today and tomorrow, which was held in Vienna on March 29.
Despite the fact that Russian authorities criticized the statement, Mitrokhin claimed that a violent regime change was extremely dangerous.
“The events in Ukraine have shown once again that violence, when applied for the sake of regime changes, leads to disastrous consequences. What is more, the example of the Russian revolution of 1917 demonstrated that violence can even lead to the establishment of a far harsher regime than the previous one”, he said.
Mitrokhin is sure that, when it comes to regime changes, they should be performed without either left- or right-wing radical members, as their aim is to involve the democratic forces into different risky adventures, undermine the democrats’ reputation and weaken their activity.
“So it is crucial to separate the democrats from all the nationalist and radical parties beforehand”, he said.
As far as the Western countries are concerned, Mitrokhin expects them to consider the situation with utmost honesty, based on European values and free from double standards. He added that the West should not ignore Ukraine’s government alliance with nationalist groups and their discriminating policy regarding ethnic minorities.
Not every one in Russia is a Putin supporter or Russian nationalist but they don't like what they're watching transpiring in Ukraine.

You would do well to note what he said about 1917 - I am fully in agreement with him.

I guess they don't understand that the best way to inspire Ukraine to adopt a nationalist, anti-foreigner stance is . . . to be invaded by a nationalist, anti-foreigner Russian regime.
Just because you don’t like what you hear from other parts of the world is no reason to dismiss them.
We will still have to deal with Russia after this is over and I don’t see you advancing any alternative apart from blind Russophobia.
There are exceptions.
But the French, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Cuban Revolutions led to totalitarianism and mass repressions.
That is why conservatives don’t like them and Edmund Burke wrote a famous book warning at length of its dangers.

Seems to me the Russians have more then shown that fear of them is justified. Marching your army into other countries tends to do that.
And the alternative is to show the Russians that they can’t just unilaterally violate other countries sovereignty without paying a price.
But your blind obedience to Putin and endless rationalization of Russia’s aggression is sickening.
I pointed out there are exceptions. They do not make the rule.
And as for the events in Kiev we’ll have to see but a regime with a legitimacy problem cannot cure it through repression and discriminating against minorities.
Ukraine fails the EU’s own requirements for membership.
Then tell us what you would do to reverse Russia’s takeover of Crimea.
No one likes it but its now a settled fact and its not considered a vital interest where Russia absolutely has to be stopped through war.
There are facts in life conservatives have to deal with. None of us are apologists for Russian policies but at the same time the West has no real influence on what Russia decides to do.
The only people who seem to find this oppression or the Russian Putin Puppets.
We’re doing everything short of war to do what you what you advocate.
But we’re not the world’s policeman. Europe will have to assume the responsibility for its own defense and its about time.
No one is cheering Putin on. That said, this is the Russian Bear and when it invokes its national interests, its not going to listen to any one else.
What discrimination against Russian minorities? After 23 years since Ukrainian independence, there’s not a single Ukrainian-language school in Crimea. Overwhelming majority of the media in the East and South is in Russian. Akhmetov and Yanukovich barely spoke the Ukrainian language before they got elected. If Ukrainian was spoken in Donetsk, more likely than not, that person would be laughed at.

Mitrokhin and his party are marginalized in Russia because they lack the courage to stand up to the genocidal revanchist Neo-Soviet Putin regime. The Ukrainian people are done backing down to the stupid bully Putin. Putin may have stolen Crimea but he has lost Ukraine forever!
