You have made a keen and--for me--new observation concerning the meaning of taking the Lord's name in vain.

Many a sinner does exactly that for his own self-serving purposes.

I had never thought about the fact that the word “vain” was in there and a study of the meaning of that word was necessary. Also, I don’t think God’s name is actually “God”. Its more like calling your father “Dad”. It’s not his name, but what you call him. But Jesus’ name is, in fact, Jesus.
