I'm a sincere pain in the ass to most people I know because of my insistence in knowing the motivation of something.

I never grew out of asking, "Why?"

If I know your 'why', I know more than you probably want me to know, which is why you hide your 'why'

You are exactly correct. When you find out WHY, you have solved for X, and you know the equation.
