I did two tours in VN, I never had less than a carton of Camels available, most newbies liked Tampax tipped butts.
There is nothing like a Camel after spending a day of avoiding getting your ass shot off. You lean back in your hole before the two and two, relax and think I must have been insane to fill out the 1049.

C Rations came with cigarettes. I did not (and still do not) smoke, so I was able to trade for things I wanted.

Yes, I too remember Vietnam when the only fun I got out of life for months on end was smoking cigarettes and scratching my jungle rot.
