Firefighters try to help. Paramedics try to help. Police officers, not so much.
Just had a guy on the local news about the Oso Landslide in Washington. He said he could hear a baby crying and nobody was going in. He started to go in and they said he couldn’t - it was too dangerous. He had a few choice words for them.
There was a photo of him on top of the mud pile carrying the baby out. Other non-official people in the background helping the mom that was still trapped. (The guy asked the mom (two broken legs and trapped “Is it okay if I take your baby?”). Mom is out of the hospital, and the baby is improving.
The folks in those small mountain communities are real close. Whoever was telling them not to go in was smart though in not trying to arrest them. The fatality count would have gone higher.
