Exactly.
Over the years we’ve seen German Shepherds, St. Bernards, Dobermans, Rottweilers cast as the canine villain, attractive to idiots, and now it’s “pit bulls”, which are actually American pit bull terriers but include a handful of similar breeds. Most dogs in pounds are some mix of the “pit bull.”
Terriers as a breed are pugnacious. They aren’t very big dogs but some have been brutalized by s***heads so that they are inherently dangerous.
I own an American bulldog, no terrier in him. He’s an energetic and excitable boy and I keep him on a short leash. He brought me a possum the other night, unhurt, `catch and release’. A while back a small dog attacked him on the street while we were walking and he simply pinned it to the asphalt.
I don’t carry a gun just for human predators. There are bad dogs who were once puppies but have been turned into mortal hazards.
But “banning” things is for lefties.
Dog owners—keep your dog behaved and it won’t get shot or a face-full of wasp and hornet spray. (Three cans for $5.00, Walmart, this week.)

We all seem to agree for once, in large part or to a degree. Imagine that.

A couple of days ago I was talking to a family friend. Who was showing me his new lab pup.

He told me that he had another black lab and it bit him three times the last one it grabbed him by the face and put him into the hospital.

This is man who raised and trained dogs for hunting professionally for many decades. He said there wasn’t some thing right about that dog.

After that I saw my elderly neighbor walking down the road I pulled up and talked with him He noticed my lab in the back seat. And said did you hear about what G—S black lab did to him. I said just talked to him and saw the scars on his face.

He said those black labs can be mean.( mine is chocolate) He then proceeded to tell me a story when he was about 20. They were at some ones house for a group picnic and the owners black lab attacked and killed a 12 year old girl before any one could intervene happen very fast he said.

Not defending pits or any other breed just though others would find it interesting.

When cops shoot dead these pitbull pests, err I mean pets, are they counted against how cops are going about kicking in doors and shooting puppies?

On the horizon:

Dogo Argentino owners are pushing for the AKC to recognize the breed. Dogo Argentinos were bred to hunt big game, control vermin and guard property.

A description of the breed including uplifting statements, such as:

"He must also be prevented from chasing and killing cats or small dogs belonging to the neighbors."

"Early, frequent socialization is essential. Purchase a Dogo Argentino puppy from a breeder who raises the pups in the home and ensures that they are exposed to many different household sights and sounds, as well as people, before they go off to their new homes. Continue socializing your Dogo Argentino throughout his life by taking him to puppy kindergarten class, with visits to friends and neighbors, and on outings to local shops and businesses. This is the only way he can learn to recognize what is normal and what is truly a threat."

I, for one, welcome our canine overlords.

While there is no indication she left her toddler with the dog (I feel the same about any breed) The toddler was unsupervised if the headline is true. She got attacked rescueing the toddler, meaning, the toddler was alone with the dog. You see it all over youtube where someone is placing a baby in the lap of a dog and the dog is growling and snarling and it’s “oh so cute, look at that big sweet dog.” I am willing to bet the toddler was allowed to tease and bother the dog.

I’m sorry but that makes no sense. she could have just as easily rescued the child precisely because she was supervising the child and the dog

Teddy Roosevelt, a great orator in his time, gave the speech below and spoke of “those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat”. Unless you are one of those type people, I suggest you get in the “arena” and tell us your “idea” to protect millions of abused, unwanted, unplanned children?

Flippant, obtuse, one sentence hit and run keyboard flurries are not a substitute for having a clue what to do about protecting defenseless children.

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

I think your first problem is that rather than propose an idea of your own on an important subject you right out of the chute insult the poster personally.

I can’t stand child abuse any more than any other sane person, I simply said proposing a license to have kids is a terrible idea, and a very far left idea.

The old ways work. It comes to be known that someone is abusing a kid, the neighborhood handles it.

......thanks for your ideas. But, let me ask a question or two.

Why should society let two people with no qualifications whatsoever and no money get together, have the child and then pawn it off on society where invariably they end up in rehab, dead or prison by the millions costing us untold billions!?

I’m suggesting that any person, man or woman, be taught early on (1st grade) about parenting just like they are taught (supposedly) math, english etc.

And, one of those subjects they take in “parenting” for 12 years be “Legal”, meaning the “legalities” to them PERSONALLY for bringing a child into this world they can’t or won’t support. The legalities are, man or woman, that you go to jail (ie prison) if a 6 person jury of your peers finds you are not supporting your child adequately. Qualification # 1 of having a child is a job.

While your in prison you can get out to go on a job interview. if you get the job then you get out of jail.

Then, experts determine whether or not you can now adequately provide for the child. The deadbeat parent, if there is one, stays in jail indefinitely until he/she gets a job.

I could write a book on details but hopefully you get the general idea. The “license” is the high school transcript which evidences successful completion of 12 years of “parenting” classes.

“Something has to be done”. We cannot continue like we are.

That reeks to me of government interference. It’s up to the parents to teach their kids, not some school.

There’s too much government interference already, which is why it’s beneficial to have lots of kids and collect money, that does need to stop.

The country has to turn back to God, or there are no answers, anything else is a wasted effort.

In a world of “theory” and “justice” and “fairness” I agree with you. You will be hard pressed to find very many on FR more conservative than I am and more anti regulation and bureaucracy than I am. But, for a hungry kid out there tonight, he ain’t interested in fairness or justice or theory. He/she just wants a hamburger, or part of one if they can get it.

The simple fact is men and women are having sex for fun today and creating little humans but also they are doing it with impunity as to consequences with you and me picking up their tab. I want this country to move in the direction of creating some consequences for adults that bring kids into this world knowing full well THERE ARE NO CONSEQUENCES!

That PROCESS starts in the first grade, or should.
