This was my original post, the plain English of which you apparently read completely backwards:

“To: Hostage
Who cares whether they have to go visit the family before legalization—it’s still amnesty and still a killer for this country.

Coulter is wrong about Romney, but she’s unfortunately quite right about Cruz.

And I was in the MA GOP during Romney’s gubernatorial campaign and governorship: I know fully well that he’s an opportunist and a liar.

actually I wasn’t married when I came here..

I just knew who I could have brought with me..

a spouse would still have had to pass through all the hoops too though..

and only minor children could come too..

Oh, and legalization—which for the umpteenth time, in the right circumstances, Cruz is for—is amnesty.

(And yes, once more, it will inevitably lead to citizenship for the current illegals and their chain-migration family members.)

Coulter’s endless love affair for Romney used to be irritating, now it’s just boring.

personally Im not concerned about Sen Ted Cruz for this subject as yet..

hes not the one running for president ..

when he does I’ll take notice..

Its Willard who hasn’t stopped running

and Willard who has been for AMNESTY for the 30,000,000 illegal aliens for years...

BTW Cruz sponsored a bill in 2013 for proof of US citizenship to vote..

The biggest thing wrong with Romney is the only people he has any fire in his belly to defeat are other Republican candidates. He spent a damned fortune to win the nomination last time, and when he had it, he QUIT. He would not confront Obama on anything, and we cannot afford a candidate like that.

It's absolutely stunning to me that adults who supposedly function normally in everyday life could think that the LOSER from the last election is the best choice we have THIS time around.

The FR MittBots just never give up...and to them, I quote our leader Jim Robinson..."FUMR!"

But he wants to legalize them—which shows just how bad, in contrast, our other pols are.

Cruz and Palin are the two best we have. They’ve already done more for our cause than I ever will. That said, I wish that Cruz were legitimately strong on illegal immigration—and that Palin would stop with the reality show nonsense.

Amnesty, and the inevitable citizenship to follow, will be the end of our country as we know it.

“Ted Cruz Vows To Oppose Any Path To Legalization for Undocumented Immigrants”

Unfortunately this statement was made 6 months before the New York Times story, and while I respect the words of FReepers, I still trust published news sources more - especially when I cannot find anyone refuting the story (if you have something, please link me to it).

Your link was from prior to the Senate debate and passing of the bill...and I suspect that Cruz hadn’t thought it out too carefully before speaking. But after the summer of 2013, EVERYONE involved in the debate knew exactly what their words meant.

Cruz’s position is still a LOT BETTER than Cantor, as Cantor will destroy this country for my kids - whereas Cruz’s position destroys the country for my grandkids - and I won’t be around for that. And if Cruz results in nothing getting done, that is FAR BETTER than either his own position or that of the Senate bill.

We need to hold our leaders accountable...no matter how awesome they are (and Cruz is certainly awesome otherwise).

I haven’t started digging into immigration yet but my guess is that there is a little more to Cruz’s plan to cut this Gordian knot, than merely “legalization”.

Cruz is the real deal, a true, in his gut conservative, any plan of his is going to be based on making as much gain, and preventing as much loss, as is possible for conservatives.

“Do you have a source for that claim that Cruz wants to allow 30,000,000 to enter the US? You are claiming that Cruz wants to give the right of chain migration to illegals?”

Chain migration ALWAYS follows when you let people stay. There is NO WAY we will change our laws and force these people to keep their spouses, kids, and parents back home - and there is NO ASSURANCE that those people, if they come here legally, will not ultimately become citizens. The only people that would not become citizens for certain, per Cruz’s position, are the ones already here illegally. We will be flooded.

“You are claiming that Cruz wants to grant them citizenship and voting rights?”

No, I’m saying FEDERAL LAW relating to the immigration of close family members will prevail. I’m married to an immigrant and I have PERSONALLY sponsored family members coming here. It is totally unavoidable.

“By the way, Texas and California are different in spite of facing the same immigration issues for decades, California turned left because of the lack of conservatism of it’s GOP, and the weak Christian values of it’s largely libertarian republicans.”

While I agree that the spineless Republicans didn’t help things, I was LIVING IN CALIFORNIA when this took place. Prior to Amnesty, California had millions of Illegals that did not vote. After Amnesty, California had millions of new citizens, but they STILL did not vote (they just didn’t bother). But then the state was broke in the early 1990s, so Governor Wilson passed Proposition 187. The Democrats
realized that these new citizens can vote - they signed them up in DROVES, and it was GAME OVER for the Republicans. They were simply outnumbered...and are getting more outnumbered by the day.

That is the Democrat strategy to take Texas and I cannot think of anything THAT WILL HELP THEM MORE than the millions of new voters from Latin Americans that legalization (or Amnesty) will provide. WE NEED THESE PEOPLE TO LEAVE...or it’s over, and sooner rather than later.

You’re completely missing the point: it doesn’t matter if and that there’s more to the legalization than the legalization. (E.g., better border control, no citizenship in the same legislation that grants legalization.) Legalization will do our country in. All conservative is lost with such a plan.

If you haven’t noticed, plenty of otherwise conservative pols completely lose it on this issue. Sometimes there’s a sentimental family link—Jeb, Walker, Rubio, Cruz—and sometimes there’s a critical mass of Hispanics in their home district, sometimes it’s the call of big corporate donors, and sometimes it’s a matter of showing ‘sophistication’ and, with time, going native with the DC crowd.

I wish that Cruz were better and different on this, and at least his opposition to the Senate bill this past year may have contributed to it stalling so far with the House. But there are far too many GOP pols who turn themselves into pretzels trying to sound like they’re against amnesty (which they almost all claim), but then believing and acting quite different when in office.

It is going to take massive diligence to keep them from doing us in on the issue, year after year after year.

Paraphrasing my old friend, Ann:

Supporting the “electable” Bush I, Dole, McCain and Romney gave us Clinton and Obama (twice each).

Supporting the crazy conservative gave us President Reagan.

I miss my good friend, Ann.

So do you have a link to something showing that the Times was wrong here, or is it just your word I’m to believe.
